As long as it's got a really cool "4x4" decal on the side... you're good to go.

A good indication that it's a 4x4 is that it has a little lever stickin out of the floor. Maybe a button on the dash. If it has one of those just buy it.

yeah if its close by to a gravel road/driveway you could test it out there. make sure you try both high and low, to engage low range, incase you didnt know, put the truck in neutral with foot on the brake and then shift into low, or turn the ****/button whichever it may have. and if u want to make sure its engaging/disengaging, place in 4wheel and kinda punch it, youll be able to tell if its in 4wheel, then take it out of 4wheel and punch it, if only your rears spin then your disengaged. kinda easy test you could do to just see if it even works

take a 2WD and a 4WD and drive them both over the crappiest terrain you can find until they're stuck.
the one that needs 50 feet more of tow chain for the tractor to recover it with is the one with the functioning 4WD.

if they use the same length, the 4WD isn't working.

yeah its understandable when buying a truck from a dealer, you cant ask to take it wheelin lol. i mean just check to see if the dash lights come on saying your in 4 wheel drive, and if you turn the wheels to one side or the other to about full lock, you will feel it thumping kind of. could just do that quick in the parking lot if all other options are out of the question

Put it in 4wd and drive in a circle and you should feel it fighting you a bit. Then put it back in 2wd and do the same thing and it should be easier.
