Oil Change Interval

New 2010 F150...Just turned 2500 miles..."Oil Change Required" light came on. Discovered it was for the 6 months interval. Thought I was waiting for 7500 miles. Anyway, dealer told me that I don't need to change it. Will this effect the warranty?

Short answer = yes.

Why? Read the maintenance guide. 7500/5000 miles (depending on service) or 6 months. Which ever comes FIRST.

Long answer = depends on the dealer, which part fails, when it fails, moon phase, Brittany Spears' haircut at the time, etc.

My truck was the same. 3500 miles and change oil indicator was on. The dealer says every 4 months or 5000 miles. I will not be going in every 4 months. With the price they charge I could go back to synthetic and do it on my own cheaper.

Just did a recheck in the Owner's Manual....Wanted to know how to reset the Oil Change Minder thingy....It says the reset will have it start over for 7500 miles or 12 months. Really?!

Have you done the break in change yet? The other break in change that gets ignored is the diff, you should do both of these in about 1k after purchase. Most places will tall you about the oil but not the diff and I have seen some pretty bad diffs from not having this done, esspascialy if they have a speacial break in fluid in it.

Good question. I'll bet most of that 6 months time was from sitting on the dealer's lot.

Huh? Did I miss that part in the maintenance guide or owner's manual?

By both, do you mean front and rear?

You do not need to do the diff at 1K. That is overkill. It is also 100 bucks of good synthetic fluid and friction modifier if you have an LS diff.

Take it to the dealer for the first oil change and let THEM wrestle with getting the factory filter off. I'd change the factory oil at 2500 without even thinking, it won't hurt.

Don't be such a cheapskate - saving the drain oil for your mower? Gimme a break. I don't think your mower would like 5W20 semi-synthetic anyway.

I get free oil changes from the dealer every 3,000 miles for two years.

Yes, both diffs since the front is still spining evevn when not in 4wd, but that wouldn't apply if you don't have 4wd.

After seeing what can happen to a diff when you don't do this what ever you I would spend what ever I needed to to do it, and keep from having to rebuild my diff and get a rental car, but then again good excusse for new gears.

The front diff does NOT spin in 04+ with IWE's.
