School computers block Wikipedia?

I'm sitting at work bored out of my mind, so I punch in wikipedia to look up random stuff, but to my surprise it's been blocked! Hopefully this is just a bug or a screw up.

Probably blocked because students were cut and pasting their 'reports' stright from Wiki instead of cracking a book in the library.

After asking a few people, it turns out that the higher-ups blocked it because there are a few articles that have been deemed as ****. I think you could find stuff that's just as bad in an anatomy book.

If you'd look at media other than mainstream you'd see there has been a huge shakeup with wikipedia concerning ****.

After reading Stealth's link, it sounds like the people you talked to were wrong.

Seems like lots of images were ****, and not exactly anatomy book material.

Wow... as long as it isn't pictures from children (under 18 YOA).... it is perfectly fine. I haven't understood the logic behind "****" in educational foundations. If someone gets off to a picture of a nude male or female in a Wiki artical... who the heck cares.

There is nothing wrong with a legally aged male or female posting a picture of their privates for educational purposes.

It's not like I've never seen a female naked or let alone a male... who cares... we are humans.

It's like if you are a guy... it's like... yeah, I got male reproductive parts too... like duh... and a woman has their own... like it's not a big deal.

Edit:

I'll confess.. I did modeling for a couple weeks at my college where I work... did I feel weird? No... why? It was for educational purposes. If a girl or guy got off to me, I don't care. There's nothing to be scared, ashamed, or hidden about on a human being. We are practically the same.

Although the OP did not say it in this post, I'm pretty sure he is a teacher at a public high school. Most high school students are 14 - 17 years old.

It is clear from one of the articles linked that people were placing true **** pictures onto Wiki, including child ****, beastiality, etc...

Wiki essentially reported themselves to the FBI because they did not want to get charged for distributing **** to minors, distributing child ****, etc...

If Wiki wants to clean up the **** and schools want to block the site until Wiki can show it no longer has ****, I'm fine with that.
