Broken Plasma TV

Does anyone know a good place to get Plasma TV parts. A local repair shop wants to charge me $350 to fix a $600 Plasma. I think I would rather buy a new one in that case. But there must be a place to find cheaper parts.

Greater than 50% to fix.....best to get a new one even though you might find parts a bit cheaper. TV prices drop weekly....so you'll find a nice deal.

Why? The new plasmas are awesome and use far less electricity than the old ones.

Plasmas also have better black levels.

I just bought an LED LCD because we have a brightly lit room. I bought the Samsung UN55C6500. It is awesome and blows away the 10 year old Mitsu we had but a new plasma would have been a great choice as well.

Have you looked at the PCB ? I would. Many times it's an easy fix. Fixed a few TV's in the past, -many monitors. Fixed a Samsung last week for my brother, - had quite a few bad caps(Samxon Ultra low esr's) and one 5amp Pico fuse (fast acting).

Most of the time it's an easy fix.

If you get a new one go LCD. Plasmas fade over time and LEDs are still fairly expensive.

How much time before they start fading?

They will fade when it is time for a new TV anyway. The phosphors in a Plasma do not fade any faster than the phosphors in an old crt screen or projection tubes. Take that off the list of worries.

My TV guy told me to buy the best surge protecter you can find for all TVs now. He said the circuitry for the powers supplies are sub standard on most all brands, and the power supplies are 90% of all the repairs he makes.

Yes sir, there is two or three separate PCB's (PrintedCircuitBoard's). The PSB (PowerSupplyBoard) is generally the culprit.

What goes wrong ? Cheap or bad parts on the boards to begin with. When building your PCB's, it's good to obtain a list of manufacturers who make these problem parts. Rather than get into a detailed explanation, the short of it (no pun), is bad capacitors, which lead to other problems and then the kill.

You can fix yourself. Best thing to do is search your Model number then type "Problems" or "Fix" after.

I've got one that needs fixing now. I think I'll try that. Probably be a while before I get to it. Everything I own seems to be in various stages of repair.

Yea, I have to fix MY crap if it can be, or I feel guilty purchasing new lol.

Not in any hurry on this stuff, but I have a list. Two iPods, one iPhone and a Emachine/Gateway T6212 AMD64. I hate working on anything AMD
