Another Rifle
pretty much, yes. at least in Va i know this holds true.. at 18 you can buy long guns from FFL's (licensed dealers) but you must be 21 to buy a handgun from a FFL, however you can buy any gun including pistols from private cititzens at 18. all they are required to check when making a private sale is proof of residency of the state and verify age. you only have to be 18 to open carry a pistol, 21 to get a concealed permit.
So what you are saying is that if I found a guy selling a gun, I could give him cash and it is mine? Pistol, rifle, etc? I have purchased weapons before and have a few rifles in my name. I remember reading somewhere that at 18 I could buy a pistol, just not from a retailer.
And yes that is why I want to buy a rifle class weapon. My dad has "gifted" me my xdm .40 and is going to get the new M&P15-22p for my birthday.

Yes. That is what I am saying. In order to buy a handgun from a licensed gun retailer in the state of Texas (and as far as I know in any other state) you need to be 21 years old or older. You may however purchase a handgun from a private seller even tho you are not 21 years old. This is often called a "straw purchase" where you have someone of age buy the gun and then turn around and sell it to you. Legally persons over the age of 18 are allowed to posses handguns.
Additionally, federal law prohibits you (under 21y.o.) from buying ammunition for a handgun until you are 21 years old or older.
may not sell handgun ammunition to anyone they reasonably believe is under age 21 (18 USC § 922(b)(1))
However, there is a loop hole here since there are many long guns that chamber the same ammo as do handguns. I.e. HK MP5 in 9mm or 10mm or .40 or .357, or .45 for your Thompson 1927 A-1, or .44mag for your Henry Big Boy lever action.
All you have to say is that you are purchasing the ammo for your rifle.

actually federal does not prohibit someone under the age of 21 from purchasing handgun ammo. it only prohibits it from being sold. if someone does sell to someone under 21, the under 21 buyer is not the one violating the law.
yeah it aint a straw purchase unless somebody buys it for you when you cant buy it. buying a gun through a private sale is not a straw purchase. and the handgun ammo, you gotta be 21 to buy it in a store but only 18 to posses it. wish booze worked that way..

To reiterate what I already wrote. A straw purchase is where you have someone of age buy the gun and then turn around and sell it to you.
The "you" in this scenario would be the OP who is admittedly under the age of 21yo.
So buying a gun through a private sale may in fact be a straw purchase but a private sale is not always a straw purchase. I hope this clears up my point.

You are grammatically and factually incorrect.
You may however purchase a handgun from a private seller even tho you are not 21 years old. This is often called a "straw purchase" where you have someone of age buy the gun and then turn around and sell it to you. Your second sentence here alludes to the first, but really has nothing to do with the first. This is what you got called on. Buying from a private citizen has nothing to do with a "straw man" transaction. If you can legally buy a handgun at age 18 from a private seller (which in most states you can), there is no need for a straw man transaction.
Legally persons over the age of 18 are allowed to posses handguns. However only under certain situations. State laws may prohibit it. Check out www.NRA-ILA.com for state laws.

I don't intend to respond in any way that contradicts what you are saying however it is my knowledge and background regarding this and other issues like this that support what I am saying.
Please refer to the following information and then tell me that I am wrong.

Yep
Get yourself a Remington 700 in 22-250 but im partial to the 22-250 got a couple myself
Bad *** round that will take a deer with a well placed shot (not recommended however)
My 22-250 will shoot sub MOA's all day long with some high quality ammo.
Primarily a coyote rifle is what I used it for. NO problem hitting a yote between the eyes at 300 yards (as long as there isnt hurricane winds outside)

The OP is looking for a semi not a bolt action.
