What are you building it for? Gaming?

Most games don't even know how to use 4 cores, much less 6.

With that said, the price difference is only $20...

From everything I read though, the I7 920 is just about as quick as the 6 core AMD and it has much more support. After a 6months-1year that might change.

I have a 6month old 750watt power supply I'm about to sell. I need to upgrade to a 1000w+ps. PM if you are interested.

We have a new HP All in One Touch Screen at the office with the i7 chipset. Running huge programs like AutoCaD and MechaniCaD will usually cripple most computers with response time sometimes in the minutes rather than a few seconds. This machine is almost instant. Depending on the usage, I'd consider the i7 instead. It'll be in my next home PC.

I have cad on my overclocked I7 and it just absolutely flys.

I built mine for 1080P hd video editing and it will somewhat struggle at times even with the 4 core I7.... I want to try out the 6core I7 but I'm not going to swing a grand just yet.

I should have bought a duel process server board, but lesson learned on my part.

I have the quad core in mine, and I dig it. So try out the 6 core and let us know what you think!

Is it just going to be used for gaming? If so just go with a 955 and OC it. Put that extra $20 into getting a better CPU cooler.

Also what are you going with for the rest of your build?

Games looking great is more on the video card side of things...

Get a high end video card on a 3-4 year old computer and just about any game looks amazing.

As cheap as the AMD 6cores are, if the OP is stuck on AMD, why not go ahead and get it? That way the computer is "future proof" at least for 5 years+.

If I was going to build a "gaming" rig that is decent at everything else, a AMD 6 core setup running crossfire on some ATI Direct x 11 cards and 6gb of DDR3 ram would be perfect.

What is this future proof you talk about?
And depending on how tight the budget is $50 can be a lot.

I was gaming on a p4 1.8ghz, 1gb of ram and a ATI 9550, before I got my new comp.

As for the 6 core vs 4 core. If you have them money then just go with the 6 core. Im thinking about selling my i7 and getting a 6 core soon.

From everything I have seen on the 6core vs the basic I7 920 is the 920 is equal or even BEATS the 6 core on most all test.. And that is at stock speed.

I know, but this thing is too hot. Idling at 40-45c and sometimes higher during the summer. I only use it for gaming now so there's gunna be little difference if any at all. I can also get maybe $550-600 for my setup then get an AM3 for about $460.

Also chris you might want to look into another motherboard. You only need the nvidia north bridge if you are going to go SLi.
