Question Home window tint?

Ive got two windows in my living room that face west and in the summer afternoon it really warms up the house. Ive been thinking about getting them tinted and talked to a company to do it just wondering if anyone else has done it and it helped?

I tinted 3 floor-to-ceiling windows in my last house. Very much worth it. I don't remember how much it was, it was several years ago.

i hear they make that two way tint that is very similar to what the cops use to watch you get interrogated. where you can see out unhindered but its almost like a black mirror from the outside. thatd be my vote

Before I had my windows replaced I went to Home Depot and bought window tint. I have two walls causing problems, one facing south and one facing west. In total I have six large windows on those two walls in a space of about 25 feet. The windows put in by the builder were a contractors grade of contractor grade window they were very effective at keeping the water out and giving a good example of the green house effect, but not much more. The tint was easy to apply and cost about $30 for a roll. When I applied the tint, I could immediately feel about a 5-10 degree difference in temperature coming off the window. The only problems were 5 or 10 degrees cooler than 120 in the summer sun is still hot, the tint does need to be replaced every once in a while (mine was on for 2 years without a problem), it did nothing for insulating the glass from the often 90+ degree summer temperature even without the sun beating down on it or keeping the cold out in the winter.

If you are looking to have a company tint your windows something to consider is right now there is a tax credit for replacing inefficient windows and doors on your house. There are companies out there that provide installed windows at a very reasonable price. In my case it was about $215 per window after the tax credit. I also have a lifetime replacement warrantee on the glass, so if there is ever a problem I call the company and have them come out and replace the sash. If your interested I can give you the name of the company that did my windows, they are nationwide.

What tint to use? , will auto tint work?

I have two small windows facing west and the sun is warping the blinds over time as it gets so hot. I was thinking of the limo tint where you can't see in.

They make a clear tint that blocks UV rays and light, I think. I hate window tint on houses though.

The tint I used was in the window blind section of Home Depot. They had several darknesses, but none as dark as limo tint. It was designed to be taken off and replaced, unlike car tint.

sounds interesting as I have 6 southern windows in the living room, well 3 of the vertical sliders that are about 5' tall, plus a section above that. then the same thing on the western wall of that room, a sliding door on the west wall, the kitchen sink, then the common room has the same size vertical slider, plus two bedrooms on that side of the house.

very bright, but also plenty warm in the summer.

I have used car window tint on my window actually. I bought some 5% from walmart and put it on the windows and then cut it to fit with a razor blade. Definitely cooler, and nobody can see in. Win-win if you are asking me.

I tinted every window in my house. It lowers cooling cost a pretty good bit and blocks alot of the light that comes in. (I have tons of windows)

I can also walk around the house buck naked during the day because the windows block anything from being seen on the outside(except for at night).

im pretty sure you mean one-way windows. two-way would mean both parties could see through

Re:

its an easy task just go in market and buy window film and fut in your window it will definitely block or reduce heat. i putted this by a company in my bedroom and now it is either summer or winter my room temperature is to be normal at what i needed.
