Stop Sign Ticket
I don't know the answer to your question. But I think it is bad advice to say he should just pay the ticket. In my area, failure to stop at a stop sign is 3 points on your license. 3 points may wreak havoc on your insurance.
Here's my story. I received a ticket a few months ago from some rogue officer that had no reason to even stop me. He wanted to search my truck. After I wouldn't consent to any searches, his final act was to give me a ticket for something I didn't even do. My dad is an attorney so he helped me develop a defense. When it came time to appear in court, the officer did not show up TWICE, and the ticket was dismissed. The DA was a real dirt bag too, each time he knew the officer wasn't there and he had no case, yet he kept asking me if I wanting a parking on pavement ticket so he could claim "go" and victory.
This could work for you, too. No officer = No ticket. At the very least you could make a deal to get it lowered to something without points. Do not just pay the fine.

I put 26 years behind a badge and I can honestly say that everybody I stopped, I stopped for a reason. To say a cop had no reason to stop you is BS. You were doing something you weren't supposed to. I wish I had a nickle for every person that told me "the only reason you stopped me was because"; I'm black, or a woman, or I'm a teenager, or I have an Obama sticker on my car, etc. etc. Then I say, "Ya know you're right, I can't lie. The fact you were doing 20 miles over the speed limit had nothing to do with it. Now give me your license."

Looking for a loophole could work and does not mean he not obey the law. You have to look for the right loophole though. I got a ticket for the same thing years ago (my only ticket ever). It was BS because the cop said I did not stop long enough. I fought it and won.
Hey Rambo, Maybe if you got a haircut and took a bath people wouldnt hassle you so much? lol

Real Sniper- I have known a lot of officers in my lifetime and in my last job had close contact with scores of them. I have to say that almost all of those I had contact in that job were great guys. I had a lot of respect for them. Matter of fact one of then was killed in a traffic accident just a week ago. Super guy. It's the few that are "bad cops" that deserve a kick in the nuts. I have been on the receiving end of that once and my wife has once, but I hold nothing against any of them, only wish the bad ones would get flushed so the good ones didn't have to carry their baggage.

BS. I too have been in LE for over twenty years. I have NEVER stopped someone for no reason. I value my career greater than giving you a bogus ticket because of some preconceived notion that you have. I will say though, if you follow someone long enough, they will give you a reason for a stop. EVERY TIME! (like rolling through a stop sign while staring in your rear view to see if that cop is still following you...)

If you stop too far away or your bumper passes the sign, you can be ticketed for failing to stop. You may think it's bogus but the cop has the law on his side.
For those of you that are going to chime in and say "well I got a ticket like that and the judge let me off". The cop did his job properly, the judge gave you a break. It doesn't mean you weren't wrong, it just means you caught a break.
