Also do you have Hyperthreading on? Idk if there's any benefits for editing, but there's benchmarks out there.
yeah prime95 is what I used. I leave hyperthreading on.

I'll admit though, I didn't play with voltages to much on the 4.0mhz setting... I'm sure if I played on it more I could have got it down.

Here is my actual setup:
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case
Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply(it was on sale for $50...wish i went ahead and got modular now though)
EVGA X58 SLI Classifed
Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 12GB PC12800 DDR3 Memory
2x Western Digital 500gb Caviar Black Hard Drives
2x Western Digital 1tb Cavair Black Hard drives
Intel Core i7 920 Processor
Cooler Master V8 CPU Fan
Sparkle GeForce 9800 GT Video Card -1024mb(Waiting for 300 series Nvidia's)

That's going to be a pretty good system for video editing, I would say. Once you decide if you are going to actually go into video editing I would make sure you upgrade to one of the higher end program so they take full advantage of the video card, ram, and cpu. Of course once you do that you'll probably find that you want more memory because will eat through it very quickly when playing back. And you are completely correct on the only time the clock speeds over 3 GHZ make a difference is on a benchmark or to say oh look at me I'm running at 5.2 GHZ or something. Most of the computers in studios run at about 2.6 with anywhere from 8-16 cores, just fyi.

Well I got OSX intaller up and running, but at the very end of it loading it says "failed to reboot, insert start up disk" then nothing.... I used empire EFI, but they have another version they said to try, then there is another boot disk to use...

Beyond that, I guess I'm going to have to start learning a little more...

This brings back a lot of memories..back when i first got into computers and started working with testing Hackintosh while it was first out i spent hours upon hours a day testing it, I couldn't even give an estimate on how much time i put into trial and error...good memories
