Dealer lists new 2009 Challenger on ebay then backs out of sale
Auto blog posted the dealerside of the story, link was posted on page 105 in that thread.
They claim it's on ebay's shoulders due to a 'software malfunction' of sorts. But yet when the bidder visited them, they offered him a "Deal he won't find anywhere else.." and were "Willing to take a substaintal loss.."... Seems weird they are so willing to bend halfway if they "Didn't make the mistake."
I agree it's karma, dealerships, everywhere, screw people every day.
There was a nearby casino, a few years ago, that had a change machine giving out more money that was being put in, and a few people figured it out and one man especially drained as much as they could out of the machine over the course of a few days, and the casino with photo evidence put out a media call saying that they want people to return the money or they would take legal action.. Now, how does it make sense that a casino can drain people of money and not swallow the loss when the table turned? The pysical action of the money changing hands is the same.
As I said, I hope he get's his car.

We all know there are crooked dealers out there. However, there are some good ones too. This is why people need to be very careful posting stuff on ebay, etc. One typo and you are finished. In most cases, the typo is something blatant and can easily be argued in court, such as adding or skipping a digit. In this case though, it was an actual bid. If this were a live auction, the seller would be held to the deal, unless the buyer couldn't pay. It is unfortunate for the dealer (I'm no defending, just understand as a business person). But, if it were my dealership, I'd honor the deal and make sure that customer is a customer for life and blesses me everywhere he/she goes. I'd also fire the idiot who make the mistake.
Yeah, this thing is on just about every forum in the free world now.
I don't think the dealer is gonna cave. They'll lose their EBay account and get a lot of bad PR, but I don't think they're gonna sell that car at that price.
The buyer could sue the dealer I guess, after all, it is a legally binding contract.
If the dealer was smart, they'd sell him the damn car at the winning bid, chalk the rest up as a loss, and never do that again. The fallout from the bad PR is gonna be epic, it's gonna cost a lot more than the $20K or so lost in selling that car at its sticker price.

Yea, this thing is everywhere. I was scanning a land rover forum yesterday, and saw it there. According to the original site, the buyer, and dealer are sitting down on Saturday to discuss a deal.
This things made it to Australia and back..
I'm only a measly 13 pages in out of the 109 but from what I've counted, there's already about 20-25 new members just rooting this guy on.

He Got the Challenger!!
Update: Hitman's Log. Star Date 3.21.10...
First of all, "Thank You" to everyone for cheering me on and helping me move forward in a positive way. A lot of message boards picked up this thread and have to thank everyone for passing the word around too.
Both parties had plenty to talk about that day but in the end of it all, things worked out for everyone. So there is praise to be made to both sides, especially the dealer who did honor the auction. Would encourage everyone to send them praise and not attack anyone in that establishment as this was not the point of this thread.
I'm sure there will be question on how things went down.

I got a 97 mustang once really cheap because the seller was stupid and didn't put in a reserve. Gotta watch carefully and jump at the right time and all. In most cases if the screw them self they'll just back out and there is really nothing a buyer can do but leave negative feed back. Specially if its a private party seller..
People can praise that dealer all they want, they still tried to worm their way out of the sale at first.
Mistakes happen, they're part of life. How we handle those mistakes is what matters, and IMO, the dealer handled that mistake poorly.
