Arrow I would like for people to answer some questions about their lives.

I'm wavering on my career's future and decided in doing some research on the topic or lives, education and career's, and I'd love for anyone to share some info.. This isn't for anything in perticular, more so for comparison purposes... Thanks! If you are more comfortable PM'ing me you are very welcome to do so.

STATE:
-If you rent/own.
-Your marital status and family situation.
-How many jobs you have (i.e. anything that would count as income)
-If you are employed or self-employed
-You education level
-Optional: A rough but truthful estimate on your annual gross salary

My questions are:
-Recount your young adulthood and tell us what your dreams were?
-How do they compare now?
-Does your income fit your education?
-Does your income allow you/your family to live comfortably?
-Wether self-employed or employed, what are your required expenses to work where you do and are you compensated for them?
-Did you succeed in doing what you wanted to for work
-Do you enjoy your job
-What do you wish was different in your day to day life and career?

This should get us started.. I'm hoping this will spurr some good conversation.. If anyone else has something to add, by all means.

I really don't see the point of going through your entire list, but one thing I encourage EVERYONE to do based on my own life experience is to move somewhere far away from where you grew up for at least a few years in your life!

My wife and I have lived in several different parts of the country over the years and we both agree it was the best thing we have ever done. Growing up back in Minnesota, I would have never dreamed of living anywhere else. Now, looking back after having lived in places like Kansas City and Houston, I can't imagine what I would have missed in life had I never moved away from home!

Every part of the country has it's good points and it's bad points, and it is interesting how different people are in different parts of the country. Each move has brought us into touch with different ways of looking at things and into contact with interesting people that we never would have met had we simply stayed back home like everybody else!

Moving around is the single best thing we have ever done and has enriched our lives immeasurably.....

I agree. It's a great experience. I grew up in Metro Detroit and moved to Chicago for 3 years right after college. Some of the best years of my life, next to the 4 I spent in college and the 7 I've spent married...

Here you go:

STATE:
-If you rent/own. - Own 2 houses, I rent one out.
-Your marital status and family situation. Married 7 years with a 6 year old daughter and 3 year old son.
-How many jobs you have just 1
-If you are employed or self-employed - Employed, workin for the man every night and day.
-Your education level - College graduate, BA in Telecommunication / Broadcast Management
-Optional: A rough but truthful estimate on your annual gross salary - about $125K annually, ($36K base plus commission)

My questions are:
-Recount your young adulthood and tell us what your dreams were? - I wanted to be a big time radio DJ
-How do they compare now? They don't, I'm in sales and sell Tax and Accounting Research
-Does your income fit your education? - No, not really.
-Does your income allow you/your family to live comfortably? - Yes
-Wether self-employed or employed, what are your required expenses to work where you do and are you compensated for them? I'm in inside sales, so I am not reimbursed like our outside sales reps are (travel, gas, etc...). 78 mile commute daily one way, definately takes its toll physically and financially.
-Did you succeed in doing what you wanted to for work - Yes, given that I have painted myself in a corner at being very good at my job, I have made the most of it and I am a top performer. But, I have no room for advancement based on my accomplishments.
-Do you enjoy your job - Not really. I use to but realized about a year ago that as long as I am employed with my current company, I will never get into Management, I generate too much revenue on the phone. Management has always been my true passion. Currently looking for another position.
-What do you wish was different in your day to day life and career? - On all other fronts beside my current job, I really wouldn't change anything. I have accomplished way more than my parents ever did at my age (34 today)and I have acquired most of the "toys" that I wanted. Sure things could always be better, but given the current state of things with the economy, I can't complain too much, other than I wish I could find another job.

1. rent
2. divorced; 2 kids
3. 1 job--engine mechanic active duty air force
4. govt employed
5. few credits short of associates in applied science
6. $55k a year (inclusive of benefits)

When i was a teen, i wanted to be a video game developer. to this day, it would still be fun to do but the market is so up and down when it comes to this stuff. you have to make it big on games in order to get a good income. when i turned 18, i was working in a grocery store and i wanted to join the air force. i grew up with the marine corps and my dad insisted i join the air force if i decided on a future i wanted. i didnt want to hit up college because i wanted an adventure first. i wanted to get into computer stuff in the air force but my MEPS station said i didnt qualify for it. instead, i decided to try something completely different and that was to become a jet engine mechanic. i never looked back. thanks to this job, i have traveled the world and have seen alot. i have done more traveling that i would have as a computer guy. the only trade off is that i work outdoors frequently. i guess the only good thing is that my jet engines are computerized so i understand how the system works very well. my goal is to survive to my 20 year retirement. it will be difficult due to my back problems. i have made it 11 years so i have 9 to go.

my ultimate dream was to be an air force pararescueman. i wanted to jump out of helicopters and save lives. i dislocated my shoulder in high school football so that dream got shot down. now with back problems, that is definitely out of the question. i would have cross trained into this job early in my career if i could have. my username reflects my old dream that i wish i could have done. i keep it as my username because i still have the desire to save lives and ill sacrifice my own life in combat to save another in need (even not in combat and the situation is dire). i hope that doesnt sound too crazy.
