need to vent and need an opinion

I just sold my 04 Supercrew and just before delivery the buyer decided he wanted to buy my Gryphon also. We settled on $400 and agreed to let him pay me at the end of the week. Gentlemans deal with only a handshake. Two weeks pass and I had been trying to reach him every day without success. Finally get his girlfriend to answer the phone last night (she actually bought the truck-did the deal with the bank) and she said they weren't together anymore but she would tell him to call me IF she saw him. Tonight I sent him a nasty text message and he finally called, pretended there was never a deal and said "you got a check from the bank didn't you?, we'll you've been paid". Also said he didn't have the truck, she did, and if he wasn't getting anything I sure wasn't. I called and left a message to her to make d**n sure she knew I expected the money or the Gryphon. I'm so pissed about this. Anyway, do I have a leg to stand on at all? A buddy went with me to deliver it and will confirm he knew about the deal but I don't know if it will do any good. ??? What do I do next?

yes there is no such thing as a gentlemans handshake anymore. you have no leg to stand on unless u had a title in hand or something in hand showing you own it. if that is the case, i would call it in stolen and tip off the police who had it. if the other guy says "he sold it to me" and u can say no you didnt because there is no papertrail. i love playing dirty

That's $400.00 you can kiss goodbye -- chalk it up to the "School of Hard Knocks"......

Too bad people are like that, but you should of never given him the Gryphon without $400 cash in hand.No paperwork equates to no legitimate deal.Hate to say it,but I think you lost.If I were you though I would contact your local police and see what your rights are in this situation.Good luck!

I’m very sorry to hear this =(. It’s to bad he can’t be a man about the whole thing and has to hide behind a cell phone like a little B*^&h but that’s reality. Its a civil matter if you explain it to the authorities as such. Now if explained in another manner such as I left it in the vehicle they might do a civil stand by assuming he doesn’t mention the afore mentioned deal. I’m sure you can find a way to get your money out of him one way or another if you’re real mad!!!

DTA my friend, Don't Trust Anybody. It's an unfortunate truth these days. Cash up front or no deal.

I'm on the same page as everyone else.. I think your $400 is gone and chalk it up to CASH TALKS AND B$#@^&%# WALKS...

Maybe he will change his mind and give you the money.. If not threaten him with a lawsuit and see what happens next.. If that doesn't work go after his G/F too..

I sold a Toyota corolla to thiis guy about 20 years ago. Deal was he gave me half the money (350) and was going to give me the remaining half (350) the next week. He wanted to take the car so i said ok you can take the car but I'm keeping the title. Guy never showed up.. A year goes by and I get a letter in the mail the car has been impounded in Colorado.. Couple days go by and the guy shows up with the money wanting the title.. Since then when I sell a car the buyer does not get anything from me that hasn't been paid for in FULL.. Had to learn that lesson the hard way..

Maybe you should do like those low down and dirty debt collectors and call once every day and request the cash.
