Mustang owners, any advice?

My wife currently drives an 04 Explorer and now that our kids are old enough to be out of car seats and buckle themselves in she is wanting to get out of the soccer mom type ride. She really thinks she wants a Mustang GT, possibly convertable, which is fine with me. We will probably look used 2006-2008. Any advice or opinions on these years? I was just wanting to avoid finding out later that they have some issue like the spark plugs on my 05 F150. Thanks in advance!

They have the same heads as on the f-150...so same plug issue.

Have y'all seen the back seat of a mustang? It's only good enough for grocery bags.

Same issue? Glad I asked! For what years? Did Ford correct the problem in the Mustang and put in the newer version plug? Yeah I know its small but she only drives around town anyway and it appears to have a big enough trunk for the trip to the grocery. Her Explorer was bought at the end of 2003 and she only has about 50000 on it now. We usually take my truck on long trips.

If you plan on putting your kids in the backseat of a Mustang more than once, I wouldn't get a Mustang. I love my GT but I never have anyone in the backseat. There is realistically NO room back there for anyone to sit comfortably, unless you like to drive with your front seats all the way up with the steering wheel crushing your ribs.

I LOVE my 07. The funnest vehicle I have ever owned. Make sure you get a manual, makes the experience so much better. Be cautioned though, these Mustangs are a moneypit if you like to mod your vehicles.

My 07 was a blast!

But don't plan on throwing kids in the back all the time... maybe just for short trips every once in a while.

Yeah I am actually thinking of renting one first to see how she likes it and how the kids fit! I would love the manual tranny and if it was my car thats what I would do but she cant drive a stick so it has to be auto. Thanks for the info.

It baffles me that people don't know how to work a stick.

Or work a carbed car.

Seriously, it should be part of the driving test to know how to drive a stick.

LOL You must not be married cause while I agree I ain't saying that to the wife!! I guess I could teach her how I am sure she is capable but I don't know that learning on a newer Mustang would be the best option? Like I said she thinks this is what she wants so we shall see!

The gt is the 4.6, I didn't think the 4.6 was having the same spark plug issue that the 5.4 has.

It was.

It was on the mustang forums way before it was on the f-150 forums due to the hotrodders changing plugs for blowers.

i thought my wife could learn also. so i had an f150 with a stick when we first got married and took her out before i traded it in to see if she could do it. well after alot of yelling and bucking and jerking and putting 20,000 mile equivelant on the clutch in a 1/2 hour in the parking lot i gave up. i swear i smelled something burning, thought we were on fire and almost jumped out of the truck. needless to say it was a lonely night. i ended up buying an automatic and have ever since. mustang is an automatic also.

Yeah that is the exact situation I want to avoid!

The most sadistic bastard in the world wouldn't force his kids to ride rountinely in the backseat of a S197 Mustang -- seriously, there is NO room! When I look in the back of mine, I question why Ford even bothered putting seats back there because they are virtually unuseable.......

Really, getting kids in and out of the backseat of almost any two-door car is going to be a royal pain in the backside -- tell the wifey to put her mid-life crisis on hold, because the Mustang will have to wait until the rugrats move out of your house and into their college dorm rooms......
