CCW weapon SR9c or Sub compact .40 XD

Have shot both and love 'em. Leaning towards the Ruger SR9c with the man safety and the slightly thinner grips....

What does everything think?

If you are going to conceal it I would pick which ever gun will conceal it self the best and not print while its concealed. It sounds like the Ruger is the one that will fit your needs the best.

Having shot several thousand rounds through my xd service model in .40 with 0 FTF I now carry it daily. I personaly want a gun that I don't have to worrie about, I am not saying the sr9c is a bad gun I just don't have any experience with it. Just to let you know unless the grip safety is fully depressed the gun will not fire, I carry mine with a round chambered and it doesn't bother me at all. What I like about the xd is 1 its very accurate, especially after I had springfield armory do a combat action job on the trigger and installed tritium sights. 2 I know without a doubt that if I need it, it will go boom no matter what. 3 If for some reason the gun does break its covered under a lifetime warrenty, so is any work you have done to the gun by springfield armory like my trigger job. 4 It has the same grip angle as a 1911, having grown up shooting 1911's it fits my hand well and when I pull the gun up to level I am already on target.

That would do the trick for CCW. Have you looked at the Taurus 709?

Glock FTW

Glock 30, Mepro night sights, 230 +P Federal HST...

And concealment is not about the physcial size of the gun. A good holster, belt, and proper clothing make all of the difference. How do you think people conceal 1911's, fullsize XD's, etc. However, subcompacts do make the job easier... And mouse/pocket guns make it even easier yet...

Have you also considered M&Pc? Having shot all of them, to me the M&P was the most comfortable and accurate - comes with 3 different backstraps to fit your hand. 1000+ rounds without a single problem. I got mine with the manual safety. Made in USA.

Whichever one you shoot the best.

A concealed carry handgun is a very personal thing. Run whichever works the best for you.

The physical size of the handgun in question isn't such a big issue anymore; a good holster and a good belt can make any handgun within reason disappear. That's not to say that you can stick a Desert Eagle into your belt and no one will notice, but medium to large frame autos with the right holster/belt combination will blend in and the masses will be none the wiser.

i have a glock 19 that i plan on using for concealed when i get to florida. in NJ hollow points are illegal but not so in most states. that 9 mm with hollows should do the job. i like the higher cap magazine. for the house i have the 21c which is a larger frame than the 30 but with the compensation and longer barrel as well as heavier its a nice gun. got my wife the sig 238. the .380 is not much take down but that with hollow points it should give her some attention getting defense. only problem the mag only holds 6 but the gun is small. while i have not shot them kahr makes some nice small pistols.

Nice!

The high contrast, factory Glock sights work well in low light conditions, but IMO night sights are a must on a concealed carry/duty piece. I recommend Meprolight or Trijicon as I've had great experience with both.

I'm pretty fond of my airweight .38 spl. Light, small, easy to conceal, and reliable!

A usual confrontation is between 7 and 15 feet. Accuracy is not required as you'll never see the sights anyway. Buy the gun you feel most comfy with and are able to point shoot it. If you can't point it and hit a man size target at 15 feet, keep looking. I won't own a Glock but I recognize they are incredibly reliable....for a brick. Pick one up and give it a try. I've carried everything from a 1911, High power, Smith Model 19, Model 29, Beretta 92, Beretta Cheetah, Python, and my current carry is a Baby Eagle All steel semi compact in 40 SW. But at 6'4" and 250 lbs, I can carry big guns. It's going to depend on what you feel comfy with and can you point shoot it. If going with an auto, make sure it's double action and carry it with safety off. Far too many have pulled guns only to hear the hammer fall on a gun locked in safety. They usually end up being killed with their own gun. Otherwise, stick with a double action revolver. Even a 22 beats a stick anyday.

I've got a North American .22 derringer, a ruger .380 lcp, a colt 22 target semiauto and a .41 magnum ruger blackhawk. i can carry the first two pretty much anytime, and i have two of the specially made undershirts that will carry the other two, when i think i might encounter a distant threat or a rhino on the loose.

Taking he CHL course here in San Antonio tomorrow. Getting a chance to put another 50 rnds through my friends XD Subcompact 9mm.

Starting to lean towards the Ruger...but the XD's reputation is "bulletproof".

Either way i will have night sights installed.
