Toyota total # of recalled vehicles
Go Toyota!!!
FWD + Parking brake
I'm just waiting for somebody to do a parody of the old "Oh what a feeling, Toyota" commercials similar to this idea:
You hear a car screaming for mercy like the accelerator is stuck. The camera swings around to see a Toyota vehicle coming down a street with the engine screaming for mercy, like the accelerator is stuck. Soon, the vehicle passes by the camera at something close to a good Daytona qualifying speed. The camera then follows the car to see it run head on into a concrete wall. The cameraman then runs with the camera, ala "Cops", to the scene of the crash. The camera then shows the drivers side of the vehicle with a shattered drivers side window and the airbags deployed, and the car "accordianed". The next sound you hear is the driver moaning painfully, "Oh what a feeling, Toyota".
I think it would be a very fitting commercial for the new Toyotas.

I like this quote from the article:
"This is my third Avalon, I have a Camry in the garage," Gerry Polesky said. "We've had five of them. My daughter has a hybrid. None of us have been worried. I have always been comfortable with their product."
Wow. The accelerator pedal might stick in your car and kill you and everyone else in the car, but your not worried?

This recall ought to shut up all those Toyota lovin granola heads and their beloved econoboxes. How many times you hear of the cruise control problem or Firestone tires on Ford's for Christ sake. About time they get a dose of reality.
Not joking because this is a fatal problem and considering they've known of this for some time and somewhere I read the NHTSA or someone knew of this since 2007? I never did like this electronic throttle, steering, braking idea since the get go and that goes for all makes! What happens if the cable on my 2000 5.4 breaks? T-body blade springs to a closed position and idles.

Here's my question about the stuck accelerator.
Now, I understand this wouldn't work in all situations, but..
What ever happened too shifting into neutral, pulling the E-Brake, pushing in the brake to shift into park, or neutral to turn the vehicle off and coast or stop?
And, if they could program the vehicle so that if you push the brake in and the accelerator is also in, it cuts fuel, why not have this already? Or some variation such as after a certain RPM, Speed, or time (5 seconds)?
I have always been a firm believe there should be a Static kill switch for all vehicles.
Glad my bike has one.
If they put these switches on the steering column with a flap (like you see in war movies).. it would keep it from being accidentally pushed, but save lives for many situations.

That's why a kill switch would be fitting for all vehicles for many emergency situations.

I believe the answer is to hold the push button for three seconds, but when accelerating problem happens it too late to get out the manual and read it.
