Ford Crate engines?

I did a quick search, didnt find what I was looking for but maybe one of your fellas have an idea. I've been hearing more and more about the new 5.0 and 6.2 but not enough to know how they are equipped.

The idea I had was to get either engine, with matching trans and PCM and use it in my 67 fairlane that has to be restored first. Where could someone find out external dimensions, stroke and bore, and other information like that as well as a price (ballpark within $1000 would even suffice), when would it be available for purchase outside of a vehicle? just things like that would be helpful, thanks guys.

Look here Ford Racing Parts. It will set you back $24,995.00.

Edit: This is not the new 5.0. It is a reworked 4.6L with GT heads and set up for road racing.

not interested in the 4.6 in the fairlane I dont want the 90* v8's for that car and from what I understood the new 5.0 was another 60* like the old motors, and maybe even the 6.2 is this way too but I haven't read any info on it.

some info I found was the "boss 302" crate engine will be pushrod and the production will be ohc, sounds awkward. I know its too early to get a firm price on things or availability but an idea would be great so I can compare my possible build routes.

I believe that cammer 5.0 is fords idea of a stroked 4.6 is it not?

For a '67 Fairlane, you could squeeze in Big Block crate motor for $10,000.

There are some decent small block options there too, which would drop right in. How about a 427 cubic incher based on a Boss 351 Block? $8,800 and 500+ hp.

Yeah I looked at those and drooled sooo bad. lol but I dont know which manual trans I could fit in there and how much I would need to rebuild before I did my first real launch. I almost think those big boys are a little too big in the pocket book, but thats my only complaint right now cause this project is a ways out still, minimum 5 years.

I was just curious to see what the new options would run for if I decided to go EFI, ya know what I mean? I love the EFI motors because its what I've grown up with, although I do love the way a carb'd engine responds to throttle and sounds when you pipe it.

My cars vin, from what I seen shows It was a 390, auto.

so the way I see it is I can rebuild it to run the 390 (i know nothing about 390's or how they performed and have heard they eat pushrods)

crate motor options would have to be a BB, 351 based block would be alright too.

EFI would have to be hands down anything but the 4.6/5.4 lol

I'll probably be keeping an eye out for that situation, but so far looking for axles out of a SD truck isn't paying off yet either :P

The old 390 BB was from the FE engine family, same as the 427, 428 CJ. Passenger car versions have been out of production nearly 40 years, the truck engines lived on till about 75-76 I believe. If you plan on putting another big block in your 'lane I would consider finding an FE series like the car originally had. If your pockets are deep enough, there is a guy up here in Cleveland that bought the original tooling for those engines and is now reproducing the blocks and various other parts and even complete engines. Alot of good info on his site.

Thanks for the link to dove engines, my dad is giving my brother his 351C which hasn't ran in about 22 years to my knowledge, it may need something by now.
I believe your right about the 390 being around til around late 70's, seen one in a truck about the same year as my brothers 74 f100, almost snagged it for the motor a couple years ago.

klitch a 460 has 3lbs pistons not a very high reving motor i wanna say red line is 5,300 or somthing like that. you make Max TQ at 2,100 rpm thoe gotta love that BB power!!!!

Actually in 440 to 460 Hp range. The true horsepower ratings were understated greatly.
http://www.hiperformer.com/featured_...r_460lb_6.html

that site is were i got the info. it says 2grand for that motor but you can find used ones all day long.

i belive the 460 was the work motor and the 429 was the go fast motor not sure if they made any 429's FI and OBDII

1996 7.5 (460 ci) 245 hp @ 4000 rpm 400 ft/lb @ 2200 rpm MPFI
