In my experience NO. Ive had a few OPTIMAS. One in my mustang (trunk mounted) one in my Late Model< and I put one in my truck. WHAT A MISTAKE. I live in Illinois. When ever it gets cold if my truck sits for more than a few days the battery is dead. Its fine in the summer, but in the winter.....brutal......Im going back to a Mega Tron...

I was told it will be a waste of money. I had to get a new one back in December. I just got me a 1000 cc amp battery for $124. Can't remember the brand of it, but Jim said the Interstate batteries are good ones.

Optima batteries are not what they used to be when they first came out. Just get an Interstate Megatron Plus.

I agree, and that's exactly what I did.

What I heard was that Optima was purchased by a foreign company fairly recently, and they started messing with the battery to "optimize" profits. The current battery is not the same as the old one and does not perform nearly as well.

glad i got mine when i did. i put a red top in about 4 years ago and haven't had any battery issues. i've even got some electronic accessories that can be pretty demanding.

i also noticed the price of the optima seems to go up every time i see them. i bought mine around $118 and i think they've topped $150 around here.

edit: forgot to get to my point. glad i bought one? yes. if given the chance, would i replace mine with another? no. for the price they are, the performance just doesn't match up.

i got a duralast for 70 bucks starts up fine even on -10* days. the duralast golds are a lil better but the normal duralast works fine for me.

know a few people that melted optima yellow and red tops. over priced if ya ask me.

Optima's made after 2004 are junk.

The two best batteries are Kinetic and Odyssey batteries. Sear's platinum are Odyssey batteries just re-badged. For our trucks the sear's platinum's will be $218 out the door(if they still cost the same when I bought mine).

So just get a used 03-.

I don't know anything about them but there was a thread in the 04-08 forum about them and everyone that had the Red Top seemed to like them.
