That's a really clean looking 04. Sure wish Honda wouldn't have stopped making 2 strokes.

Not sure who told you it has a "high compression piston" lol but they are FOS. The only way to change compression is with porting, base gasket (thickness), or head work. Possibly the heads been shaved? You might ask the previous owner.

You'll be fine with 93 octane and a premium semi-syth oil like Yamalube. Race gas will give you no more performance on a stock motor. I've ran Yamalube in 2 strokes for years and years and only top end failure I ever had was on my sons 85 in the sand dunes with the small end bearing flew apart. In the oil's defense it was a 85 in the sand dunes lol. I run my mix at 36:1. I have switched over (last year) top Redline with good results. Pistons are still coming out pretty clean.

Also if you start running race gas your jetting is going to be was more touchy. With pump gas I run the same jetting year around with temps from 45 to 95 and the plug keeps the same dark tan color.

I just bought another yz85 for my son and building a supermini. Bigger wheels, and making it a 105cc. Can't wait.

Yeah, that is a nice clean bike. Hopefully you can get at least what you paid for it.

IMO, a full race 125 is rarely the best choice for a beginning rider that wants to ride trails.

For an affordable, beginner friendly bike with more low end grunt, look to something like a KDX200 or KDX220.

you can also change it via high compression piston-i ran 13.5:1 hrc one's in the past

It could help, but if I geared it lower I would lose top end.

It would be easier if I could just get a good sale/trade in on a newer FI 4 stroke.

In a 2 stroke?

I've never heard of a high compression 2 stroke piston in a stock bike.

Put a flywheel weight in it. It will be much easier for you to ride. It will broaden the power band out a BUNCH.

yes in a 2 stroke- i ran thinner head and base gaskets as well as milled heads,i got honda support back in the day when 2 strokes prevailed,i had alot of back door connections at hrc, notice who i'm hanging with in the pic in my sig-i was at steel city at the end of the 01 outdoor nationals when he took over exra lusk's ride for factory honda-i had a great hook up with rc since my earlier pro ama days , when i lived in fla from 93-01-i was at rc's house training as jeanne was cracking the whip on him

That's not a stock bike. Cheater.

That's my dilemma on this supermini I'm building for my son. To just go with a 105 cylinder and shave the cases to fit and run pump gas OR do some head work and run a mix of pump and race fuel. I guess I could always do the head later and then stroke the motor and bore it to a 112. I've just seen too many stroked motors grenade.

Sounds cool hanging down in FL. The Goat was coming into his prime then.

No doubt. No one did. Reed never could stay with him for the long haul. I sure wish he woulda stayed at least another year, though. Bubba and RC put on some of the best racing.

Good race yesterday. Bubba must still be pretty tweaked to get passed like he did. I read on vitalmx earlier this week he may of had broken ribs. That's not taking anything away from Dungey either. He's riding the 450 like a stud for his first year. I just wish RV would get back up front and battle with Bubba and Dungey.

I'll have to post the picture of my son on the podium at the Dallas 05 supercross race with Erin Bates. He raced the KTM Jr Supercross challenge and got second. What a day that was.
