what to do with this car...

my sisters 2003 camry has started leaking transmission oil from the seal 'tween the motor and transmission..and a little damp around he head gaskets..

its got almost 181,000 miles on it..its the classier one (leather moonroof 3.0 v6 all that)

me and dad were talking about whether to fix it ourselves (i disagree with this option!!!!) take it to get fixed (i likey this one!!!) orrr just leave it and check the oils every now and then to make sure nothing burns up or get rid of it for a couple/few thousand bucks..

they got it a year and a half ago for 5000 and it has no problems besides this leak

i told them to just let her drive it, shes almost through with high school, or try to sell it and get her the truck she wants..even though im still trying to talk her out of a chevrolet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical old vehicle starts to leak some fluids. I guess it depends on your opinion of having oil spots in your driveway. In my opinion, you have many options, and the ones you listed all work find, but as I explain to my family, dripping oil in my driveway is not an option.

well me and her park in the woods the parents will be dad gumed if we park on the concrete! so the oil spots arent a big deal.....

sister=doesnt care, shes gonna drive it and has her heart set on a truck
me=just drive the thing and check oil levels till you can afford a truck
dad=wants to sell it and let her get something else
mama=wants to spend the money and get all that fixed

I can't imagine sticking any money into that thing just to fix a couple of oil leaks. With that many miles on the vehicle, you'll just end up playing "whack-a-mole" trying address all the little leaks and other idiosyncrasies that go along with a car that has that many miles on it.

Check the fluid levels from time-to-time and drive the thing into the ground......

Go by AutoZone and pick up a quart of TransX and put it in the tranny. It'll probably stop the leaks. You don't put this in a good vehicle but since it's a beater anyway- what difference will it make other than stop the leaks.

Oil leaks of any kind are not good... but since it is a little car, let it break and go to the crushers.

If I liked the car I'd prolly fix it, but if she doesn't really care for it, just run it til it dies. I know if it were my truck I'd fix it no matter how many miles it has on it, but then again I love my truck so there's a difference I guess.

She would be way better off to run it till it done and than get a new vehicle ive done that before had a $6000 truck had something go wrong with it. Ended up spending $1000's to fix it in the end it was not worth it spend more than I could ever get out of it. In the end be better off running it how it is and save to get a truck that she wants...

Give it back to Toyota, then they can recycle it into the next gen Tundra.
