Herters ammo?

Anybody ever heard of it? I never have, and am wondering about its legitamacy. Found a pretty good deal on Cabelas online for 1,000 rounds, ends up being about $22/100rnds and that is the best deal I have found since Walmart stopped carrying WWB.

What are your thoughts?

Walmart here hasnt quit selling the WWB. They also switched to Federal ammo (from Blazerbrasss) and it's cheaper then WWB. $9 vs $12 for 9mm and so on.

Never heard of Herters. you didnt specify caliber in post

Sorry, 9mm. My walmart has not stopped selling it perce but they have not had any, nor have I seen any in the surrounding wallys. The Herters has an aluminum casing so it is non-reloadable but still a good price.

Herter's was a large mail-order type sporting goods supply store (think JC Whitney for hunting and fishing enthusiasts) that was popular back when I was growing up in Minnesota back in the 1970's. They had a large retail outlet in Waseca, MN, and it was always a "big event" to pile into my old man's pick-up and head down there for an afternoon of shopping. I remember they were big into shotgun shell re-loading, which is the primary reason my dad went there.

I'm wondering if this is the same Herter's you are talking about....???

Herter's is now owned by Cabela's, as of 2002. So basically, they had someone make it for them. No idea who the rel manufacturer was.

You serious? I dont' have a gunsmith, but I think you were being sarcastic anyway. If you were why, I've shot wolf before, pretty dirty, but I'm just looking for plinking/target ammo.

That's a name I haven't heard in years. They used to have a retail outlet in Glenwood MN as well. I remember going there as a teenager and looking at the snowmobiles they had on sale there.........

I personally will not put any type of aluminum in a gun barrel of mine. Aluminum is very abrasive to steel. In fact most polish for steel contains some type of aluminum because it is so good at polishing (removing material) it. The barrel of your pistol is made from steel. Do you want something that is very good at removing material in the chamber of your pistol? I do not that is why I will not shoot aluminum cased ammo or use aluminum cleaning rods.

I agree. It's good to stay away from any type of aluminum casing in any gun that you actually care about. Also, aluminum casings tend to warp after they are fired and will cause jamming.

According to this, they are polymer coated steel cases, assuming these are what he is buying. Also Russian manufacture.
