I would recommend staying away from steel also. Unless it's a gun you rarely shoot. Steel-cased ammo is known for causing excessive wear.

I'll use the cheap steel stuff in cheap guns (SKS etc). The coating does make them much slicker and will not wear the chamber as bad as bare steel will. Most of the steel case ammo was made in eastern bloc countries where cost and reliability was the most important factor. Steel is great for this but rough on the weapon. Brass is still the best and this is all my better weapons will see. Brass is softer than steel and will grind and wear out the chamber under normal use.

IMHO ammo is like picking a ford over a chevy. Everyone has there opinion. Based on personal experience I will never use Wolf in anything. I've had problems with jamming and it's extremely dirty. My AR will shoot PMC, Federal, Black Hills, Hornady and others no problem. It doesn't like Wolf.

Isn't the chamber on a rifle hardened? If so the mild steel from a case isn't going to do anything to a chamber.

Actually, even hardened steel will wear faster with steel casings. It is a minimal increase, but like I stated above, if it's a weapon you care about, I would stick to brass.

I remember Herter's snowmobiles -- I think they were red, weren't they? If I'm not mistaken, they were actually Johnson snowmobiles that were private-labeled for Herter's.

My best friend had his first lawyer job up in Glenwood -- made many a weekend trek up there from the Twin Cities to get blasted at the local taverns. He lived in an apartment above the "Pizza Ranch" restaurant so the biggest challenge we had getting home after a night of "tilting them back" was scaling the rickety steps that led to the second floor of the building.

He dated Jodi Huisentruit (sp?) (that news anchor who disappeared down in Mason City, IA) while he was up there and she was a reporter for a station out of Alexandria.

I have many funny memories of that place.....

Thats why they coat it with polymer, The Steel never makes contact with chamber.

I've never had a problem like the what was said in the link. One a year me and all my cousins get together at me and my brothers cabin and shoot. we will go threw a few thousand rounds mostly .223 from either AR-15's or Mini 14's. we tend to shoot a broad range of ammo, we will go from 30-60 rounds of wolf to 30-60 rounds of UMC. I have never not had a shell not come out. I know wolf can be very dirty, and some wont cycle correctly in some guns but from my experiences with it I see no need to stop using it.
