So im a A-hole..

Well Look like im a A-hole after all, let me start by explaining the situation. Two days ago my son 1yr, 2 weeks old obtained a slight fever. He had been having some mucus issues for a few weeks prior but nothing that wasn't clear by 11am or so. Nearly 12am-1am tuesday morning he broke into the 102-103 range, lost most of his energy and got pretty sick looking/acting.

My wife takes him to our routine doctor and he examines him, says he bet 10 bucks he had a inner ear infection. Well he lost his own personal bet cause ears were fine, he listened to his chest and seemingly nothing to worry about there. So the next step was him telling us our son had "sinus infection". My wife questioned about the flu, he told her that he had not seen a case of the flu in over a month so he would not test for it today. He said that if he still had a high temp in 6-7 days to bring him back and he would test for further complications.

My wife treats, maintains, triages prego patients daily, thats all she does. She does flu tests by the handfulls and they take about 10-15 minutes to produce. My BEEF I guess you could say was the hell could they not have tested for flu while in the office? So my "additude" was not the greatest when I called after his temp read 103.9 and he was vomitting everywhere this morning.

They tell me to look up symptoms of sinus infection in big letters its says low grade temp of 100-101. Hes had a 102-103 for over 24 hours I tell them, and she says the anti bodies hes taking for sinus makes it a little high. So I then say "mam he was reading 102-103 when he came into the office actually read a 103.7 there. She got pissed off and snapped back a comment about the doctor being right, my only question was why the hell could they not have tested (yes, or no) for the flu and got that out of the way? I mean I shouldn't have appologized for making her put down her sausage biscuit but dern. Wouldn't that flu test have been a good idea? Is that not preventative medicine? sorry for the rant just have no one to talk to I guess.

It's a very stressful situation when the little ones are ill and when you can't get help, it is really bad. Hope he gets well soon!

Little ones can get very sick very quickly. I don't see why they didn't run the test, just for your relief. The stress on the parents is almost as bad as the illness of the Child. Unfortunately the little tykes don't come with instruction manuals, so we do the best we can.

When i was a kid, our family doctor would run any test he felt necessary to rule everything out. When it comes to your kids, i can see getting a little agitated with doctors if you don't feel they are doing everything to take care of your child. Take him somewhere else if need be...

I hate it when doctors pull this high and mighty know it all crap. These doctors need to realize that people don't accept their word as gospel anymore like they did 20-30 years ago. You did what most do these days, you took the time to educate yourself and they should listen to what your saying. The flu test should have been run to give you and your wife piece of mind if nothing else.

His first guess was wrong, I hope the second one is correct and the little guy is on the mend.

Case in point...that is why I never use medical doctors unless it is a matter of life and death.I use Chiropractic for all my family when it comes to staying healthy and treating illness and injury.

I'd never go to a back cracker for anything. They aren't trained to find the stuff that could become a life or death situation. Chiropractor's are the people that couldn't make it as a real doctor because they washed out of medical school.

Try educating yourself before making fictitious statement like that.

A perfect example of argumentum ad ignorantiam...let's not discredit where credit is due when it comes to real healthcare.
