Just A Question... If you work for Firestone, why do you have goodyear's on your truck?

I spent my life in automotive work (a large part dealers) and I have to ask an honest question- why does anyone take their car to a tire shop to have mechanical work done? They don't know any better? Or what? That's no reflection on you, you may be an excellent tech, but it's kinda like going to the barber shop to pick up your bread and milk.

Our Firestone is a full service shop with ASE certified mechanics. It is not a tire shop.

Firestone doesnt have a big enough tire in a 20" tire. Going with coopers after the spring. Some 38s hopefully. Firestone only makes a tire up to a 275/60/20 and they aren't even close to looking beefy either. So that's my reasoning lol

Thank you. All the techs at my shop are ASE certified in atleast 2 fields and are fast in mostly everything. Me and another guy are pretty knowledgable in alot of the newer stuff and stuff that is showing up in vehicles. One of the reasons for people bringing their cars to smaller shops is that they are more of a one on one relationship compared to a huge dealer and such and also these smaller shops are cheaper then dealers. My shop will do anything from a light bulb to full engines and trans swaps. I have put atleast 3 lift kits in at my own shop. My boss used tocfrown at it and never wanted to install aftermarket stuff but I forced him to and now he will take anything the drives in.

Norm- not trying to be disrespectful (and no, I am not sticking up for dealerships, cobblers there as well), but I bought 3 of the ASE books in anticipation of getting certified in 3 catagories. To my extreme dismay, I found a total of 5 mistakes (total) in 2 of the 3 books in the answers in the back to the sample questions. These are fields that I was very experienced in and knew the subjects well, not an opinion situation, very black and white verifiable technical information. I was appalled. Needless to say I didn't go through with the certification because I soon after accepted a job that required a high degree of skill, but didn't require ASE certification. The other job didn't either, I just wanted to get it on my own. I have never again looked on that supposedly prestigious patch as an indication that the person NECESSARILY had the knowledge or skill that the patch was supposed to be an indication of.

Are you saying Norm, that your Firestone is a mechanical shop that just happens to sell tires? Jack-of-all-trades, master of..........

Just like any other mechanic. Mom and pop or chain store.
Are you saying you mechanic only specializes in one engine on one type of vehicle?

Yes there are some "certified" people with little experience at every shop but you can't label a whole chain as bad because of one bad experience.

Just like Microsoft certification or MECP guys that read the books or bought the cram CDs and think they are now qualified. It takes experience to make the certifications worth more than the paper they are printed on.

All I am saying is the Firestone shop in Danvers is an excellent shop that does more than sell tires.

Still the same old asshat, I see. Driving the same old 'truckette'.

I think I may have run over that turd last time I was over - had to look back, as it was a barely noticeable bump.

How's the Mall toilet cleaning bidness comin' along?
