Where does your salary fall?

If I am reading this correctly, the top 25% of the taxpayers are paying in 87% of the taxes. Pretty amazing if that is correct.

top 50 by about 600 bucks.

Man I hope this economy picks up sometime, thank Heaven homes around here are bad off with the economy too. I do feel bad for some parts of the US paying mucho #'s for houses just because there in a certain location. But I guess around those areas you get into the 20% and up crowd.

No that is not what it is saying. It is saying that 1% of the taxpayers earn 23% of the taxable income and pay 40% to the tax paid. I would guess that their overall rate is probably about 30%. This is srtictly income tax, does not include FICA/Social Security and Medicare.

Between the four jobs I have I am in the top 50%. Two of the jobs are volunteer, but they are organizations or work that help the rest of my future interests almost directly.

Equally disturbing, the upper 50% of tax payers (some 70.5 million people) account for 97.1% (some 1.1trillion dollars) of federal tax collected.

The top-earning 50% of taxpayers reported 87.7% of all AGI and paid 97.1% of total income taxes.
Together, you and the other 70.5 million taxpayers with incomes of $66,000 or more paid a total of $1.1 trillion in federal income taxes.
http://www.kiplinger.com/tools/income_rank/index.php

The U.S population stands at 308,250,467 at the time I post this.
http://www.census.gov/

so...
70,500,000/308,250,467 *100 = 22.9% of the U.S. population pays 97.1% of the federal taxes.

Furthermore

according to the kiplinger's site
the bottom 50% (70.5 million) taxpayers account for 2.9% of federal taxes collected.

so..
70,500,000/308,250,467*100 = 22.9% of the U.S. population pays 2.9% of the federal taxes

so...

22.9% + 22.9% = 45.8% of the U.S. population pay all of the federal taxes collected.

45.8% * 308,250,467 = 141,178,714-308,250,467 = 167,071,753 Americans pay NO federal taxes whatsoever.
