you can go down to home depot/lowes and pick up 25 feet of 12 romex and some good quality plug ends and make up a temporary cord.

What are you using for your earth ground? You have a 220V motor so two wires will be hot and one will be the neutral. There will not be an earth ground unless you run a chassis ground off of the motor. If you have to buy cord anyway why not get the one with the extra wire and have the motor grounded?

Gotcha, I remember someone talking about using Romex which typically does not have the extra wire and assumed that is what you were going to use. I must have gotten my wires crossed.

There are 220V versions of Romex that do have 4 wires in the jacket.

yes, sounds like the next batch of wire i'll find... from work

SO cord, rated and used in various lengths for 480v 3ph motors. that'll do!

What Keith said, except...

Romex has solid conductors and will make a lousy drop cord (even temporary) for a compressor.

It's very rigid so any vibration is passed to the termination points. Its shape doesn't fit the cord grip connectors on the plug ends. And it's a PITA to terminate on the screw terminals.

Get some good SO or SOJW and a 20A plug and you'll be able to re-use it in the future.
