So there is no debate then as LEDs are LCDs.

You're right since all they changed was the backlighting from CCFL to LED, but manufacturers are being sneaky and presenting them as a new breed. So when consumers will ask they will think they are different. So, the question remains, do I get cheese or pepperoni pizza?

I would chose an LED set over a plasma.

Until prices come down I won't even consider buying an LED. As an example from Best Buy, the difference between Samsung's base model 58" Plasma vs their base model 55" LED is $700. So apparently not only is the LED worth $700 more, it's worth $700 more plus a loss of 3" of screen.

Until prices come down the manufacturers will be taking advantage of the average consumer by charging so much for this "new technology". No thanks.

It is worth it to me in lower power consumption and thinner profile. 1.2 inches is awesome. You can also find much better prices than Best Buy. Plus if I buy the latest available when I am ready to purchase it will remain current longer. I tend to keep my toys longer than most. I still have my RCA 31 inch tube set from 91 in the kids playroom. Paid 1800 for that one. I am watching a 46 inch Mitsubishi projection from 2000 right now. I need to put a new set of convergence chips in it but otherwise it is still working. It is just huge.

Interesting to note that folks stating that plasma sets are prone to burn-in are probably not aware that their old CRT sets are very prone to do the same.

Fact is, the plasma manufacturers have all but eliminated the problem. LCD does have advantages over plasma in terms of power consumption, bright room viewing, high altitude use. Thickness an issue with plasma? Check out the new Panasonic Z1 series that are 1" thick.

In terms of overall picture quality and viewing experience– not including gaming, computer use, etc., the top plasma sets have a distinct advantage, even over the current backlit LED LCD units.

The Z1 is very nice but the 54 inch lists at 5995, can be had for about $4300. The Samsung LED 55 7000 series for ~$2100 or the 8000 series for about $2600. I would chose the 7000 series for half the Panasonic price.

Dang you guys are TV maniacs! Im pretty sure what im going to end up with. Im really liking the Samsung 52" 1080p 120Hz. It has a 80000:1 contrast and plenty of plug ins for accessories. Now i think im going to wait closer to christmas and maybe there will be a sale. right now ive found it for 1389.00. Best Buy is what i have close to me and im unsure about having one mailed to me. Cant wait, unless you guys know of a much better price.
