My thoughts are with you. I know it was the hardest thing I've ever done.
Take comfort in doing what's right, I'm sure your dog loves you more than you realize.

It always hurts to lose a family member, and it looks like yours was indeed a family member.

Always sad to see hear about these situations. But like others have said, it looks like she had a great life doing what labs love to do, anything that involves water. I've always liked that pic of her on the boat with those glasses that I've seen from the many "post your pooch" threads. I have a 5 year old yellow lab and he's my first dog. I dread the day he won't be around anymore.

its not easy, its been over a year since i put my dog down, she was almost 15 years old, and was there for 3/4ths of my life up the that point. Very hard thing to do, she grew up with me, and i miss her. I still get a tears thinking about loosing her.

Hang in there, it will get better

Same. Now my sister's BF's bulldog has cancer, they gave him 3 weeks to live last week. He's only 5.

My brother sent me a sympathy card the other day with this in it..I'd like to share it with those that have been.. and are going thru this.
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Migdaddy, you have my sympathy. I have had to do this twice now. Cried like a baby. Only thing that I can suggest is that you know it is for the better that he does not suffer. Just remember the good times you had with him.

Sorry for your loss. I cried like a baby when I had to put my first golden retriever down. I picked out of the litter when I was a little boy. Tough few days on me. I don't even want to think about that right now as my 5 year old yellow lab leeps at my feet while I type this...you will get through it, you gave her a good life. This poem helped me get through it, you will see her again.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Im sorry bud, I know how it is. We had two Labs that were sisters, the first one(brandy) started getting terrible seizures and got diabetes and then later on went blind and we came home and she was lying under the deck not wanting to move because she didnt have the energy to. My dad had took her to the vet and had her put to sleep and it was a terrible feeling. Then when they got home the sister(mandy) did nothing but howl all night and feel into a depression and lost a ton of weight, she too eventually went blind and got to sick to go on. For some they can just move on, but when that dog is your closest friend its hard. A dog will give you everything they have even when you dont.
