Texting Scam...FYI

I just received a Text Message yesterday stating the following:

Dear Community Driven CU Member, we regret to inform you that we had to lock your bank account access. Please call 512-501-4761 to restore your account.

The caller ID was blocked, and this is a real bank, but they say on their website that this is a scam. Here's their link:

I think this is fairly new, there are some posts on-line about this also. I tried to call the # but I get nothing. Others have said there is a voice recording requesting account info. I don't even have an account with them.

Not trying to be Captain Obvious with this thread, but just wanted to give you guys a heads up in case anyone gets the same thing. This is the first time I've heard of a texting scam. Not even sure how they got my #.

that happened like a year ago here, idk if it was the same number.

but def the same thing, a weird number would text you wanting them to call you and give them your bank number.

of course i called and had fun with them

EDIT* it was only a scam in titus county texas now that i think about it. they were talking about Bank Of America, which i do not have an account with. and everyone was suppose to go to the titus county sheriffs office if the text was sent to them.

I've been seeing this here on my cell for Pyramid CU, which I don't have an account with, but also the Credit Union I actually do business with. I immediately called the real number for my Credit Union and they told me they were aware of it and had "shut them down"?

I can just see how my (now departed) little old Mother would have reacted to something like this. She'd have probably fallen for it hook, line and sinker. It's what really infuriates me about these scammers, they take advantage of the most vulnerable among us who have the most to lose. I personally think they DO deserve "cruel and unusual punishment", and it should be "public".

And there's MY rant for the day!

i hear ya on that jack and/or janet!

my economics teacher was telling me a story about her parents and readers digest.

they have a subscription with readers digest, well "readers digest" calls, she said 27 times, saying they missed their payment and they need her credit card number.

her mama was SO pissed she wanted to cancel her readers digest...that goes to show how these sleaze bag scammers are. and that the elderly will believe almost anything!

I got a bunch of texts similar to that last month and when I called the number it wanted me to enter my account number. Since I didnt have an account with that bank I couldnt do that. Everytime I got a text it was from a different number.

JP Morgan or something was the bank.

FYI the only number you should call when your account is questionable should be your bank!
