Trucks win out in "Cash for Clunkers"...

The single most common swap - which occurred more than 8,200 times - involved Ford F150 pickup owners who took advantage of a government rebate to trade their old trucks for new Ford F150s. They were 17 times more likely to buy a new F150 than, say, a Toyota Prius.

"1 in 20 got less than 20 mpg..."

So at least this well help that fuel consumption will go down a little, with supply and demand that maybe helps lower our gas prices.

Can you say backfire? This program was initiated so people would get rid of gas guzzlers alltogeather, not just trade in their old guzzler for a new, slightly less thirsty gas guzzler.

Nothing like beating the system.

Wait, I thought one of the stipulations of that program was that the new vehicle had to get at least 10mpg better then the clunker trade? I'm surprised to see the average was 1-3 mpg better. That is a waste.

to get the full 4500 it had to be +10, for 3500 it had to be "better" +1-9

ahhh. Thanks Not a bad deal for 1K less, some clunker driving pickup drivers really made out with our tax paying dollars, the purpose of this program did not. At least the new trucks have better emissions.
