building a new computer
Another vote for ASUS boards, I've also used ABIT in the past and thought very highly of the product. Get the newer style processor and board that way you can upgrade to a better CPU in the future.
The best board for an E8400 that's available at Newegg is an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo.
However, there is something to be said for going with the new socket - either an i5-750 or i7-860 on an Asus P7P55D.
AMD may have some competitive stuff, but I personally will not build with them for various reasons.
Not with a 10 foot pole. Have you ever tried to get support or service on them?

When I built my first PC from scratch last year my bro mistakingly fried the mobo by bolting it to the case chassis. Since neither of us knew what we did wrong until we found out online we needed to put the grounds in, I called XFX saying the mobo was dead and they told me to just return it to tigerdirect, rather than going through them because it would take much longer through XFX. I didn't have to wait long on the phone and the guy was extremely helpful. I love their products and have had no issues with my mobo or video card. Not trying to argue with you though. The forum you push here for PC help is a great site that helped me out last year through my PC-Crash to PC-Build fiasco. I'll be visiting it soon for advice on running a dual monitor setup
.

i am running an Asus AM2 Mobo two XFX Graphics cards and OCZ RAM and it has been awesome
I have yet to try and XFX Mobo but what i have seen with their GPU's there products are of quality
but ASUS is tried and true on the motherboard side of my computer building experiences and would recommend to any one else
the reason i showed the MSI Mobo is that is the only one i can find with
Socket AM3 DDR3 and SLI support all in one board so that looks like that's my only choice

and on the dual monitor setup JBMX928 what os you trying to get it to work in??? i can help u out

They both have their ups and downs. I find Newegg has much better shipping than Tigerdirect, both price and turnaround, but sometimes Tigerdirect will have better prices/something newegg doesn't. When I built my PC last year I ended up buying half of my stuff from each store
.
i dont know much about AMD

ASUS all the way. They have been a solid board manufacture for decades. Actually head over to www.hardocp.com and read up on some of the latest reviews.
oh and don't get anything with built in video. With the really low price of video cards it be silly not to use one.

If you want onboard video with an i5/i7, wait just a bit longer, the G57 chipset is almost ready.
If you want a board with onboard video that will take the E8400, here you go:

I much prefer Newegg to Tiger Direct for several reasons. Customer service is better. Tiger sells a lot of distressed merchandise. Their ad writers make total crap sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread - and they sell a LOT of crap.

AMD's run cooler and at a lower power level than Intel's, at least that's how it was a few years ago.
