My truck was retired on 10/23/2009
Well, as much as I was excited back in April of 1999 when ShowYa was built right here in Kansas City, she was retired and sent to salvage Heaven on Friday October 23, 2009.
It all began in 1999 with a Lariat F 150 conventional cab as many know them, it was black all over with grey leather in the cab. I wanted a 5.4 flareside and it was built from scratch. I spent just over 10 years building my baby and it only took 6 and half hours to strip, remove, and salvage the entire truck. It was sent to salvage yard as a stocker, right done to the last part. The only parts I left on the truck were drop kit, due to frame damage and Lightning skirts.
I was in a violent 3 car/truck crash on the evening of October 14th, 2009 @ 8:30 PM. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time folks, enough said.
This is a short story and please respect my wishes as all of the parts removed have been sold or at this time are reserved for local buyers, mostly due to size and costs of shipping. If there is anything remaining I will post accordingly.
I was rearended at a dead stop, sounds serious but it was so violent to the fact I was not moving and suddenly I was literally shoved/plowed into oncoming traffic. I am recovering at home, been rough since that night. I have settled with insurance on the truck, not happy but what can you do when you got your monies worth out of a 10+ year old plus truck with 184,000 miles. I will miss the ride, tears come my eyes as I write this for you but you are my family and we all build these trucks as a family and they fall from time to time as well.
I feel like I fell off my bike, only higher and hurt inside. My pride was taken away in merely 5-7 seconds, it was that fast. I can't put into words how quickly it happened and it was over, stopped.
I have not decided what to replace the truck with at this time. I am looking at several options, not having the funds I had when I bought new in 1999 it won't be new at this time. I have my eye on a 2011 Mustang but the rental won't last long, LOL.
I can tell you this, the photo below does not show the 6 inches shorter my truck is after the impact.

You used to be able to insert 2 fingers in between the bed and cab when I cleaned the truck every week.

This is what a 40 MPH impact looks like from an SUV at a dead stop ladies and gentlemen.

What a couple few weeks. I am thankful to see that you are able to tell us this as I seem to recall you saying you were getting out of the truck? Best of luck bud

That's exactly why I don't like to drive my Dak around... those crazy idiots on the road have no respect for anything!
In case anyone wants to know why my Dak is special to me it's because it's a 2000 reg cab, 4.7l v8, 5 speed manual... it's the only little truck built recently that had a factory v8 and a 5 speed standard in a regular cab format.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I think we all know the attachment we can have to a vehicle. I just had my car stolen from me a week and a half ago. Had her for 5 years, first new car I ever bought, and poured way too much money into it but I loved driving every second of it. As cliche as it sounds, we can always replace our rides, but life is the most important thing we cannot replace. Be thankful for that and I wish you the best of luck in finding your new replacement.
