xBox 360 help - Looking to purchase

Hello!

Looking to buy in the near future an xBox 360. One of the guys I work with has been bringing his in and I am pretty much addicted to shooting **** Zombies now.

What I am looking for is what exactly to buy. I have been surfing eBay and see some bundles, but am unsure which owuld suit me best.

I have not personally owned a gaming console since the original Sega came out, LOL.

I would be most interested in first person shooter type games, driving/racing, not really into sports games.

I would like to have the xBox LIVE, I have wireless at my house. I would most likely only need 1 controller for now.

Total I guess I would need: Console, controller, headset, internet router/modem thingy, and games of course.

Where would the best place to buy a used one be? Any luck with refurbed units? I have a refurbed DSLR camera and framing nail gun, both are indistinguishable from new and function perfectly, maybe I am pushing my luck here, LOL.

How many gig do I need?, etc....

Yes, I have done a search and found some topics, but with technology things change day to day so I am looking for the most current up to date advice. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

I would buy a new one just to get the warranty. Its sad that the red ring of death is a pretty common problem now but Microsoft is great on the warranty aspect. I have a 20gb hard drive on mine and its getting pretty full, the 20gb was replaced with the 60 though so you shouldn't have any problem with space issues with that one. I actually share internet from my laptop to my xbox via a Ethernet cable which saved me the $70 for the wireless adapter.

I would go for a new system. But if you happen upon a used system, be sure it's a "Jasper" model. Better graphics chip....requires less power and runs cooler. Supposely, this fixed the dreaded "ring of death" issue on the older systems.

If you do decide to purchase a new system, be sure to purchase the "Jasper" 360 model. Be careful, there are old stock left on the shelves. Just Google, "xbox 360 jasper" and you will find much information on how to determine if it's a "jasper" model.

That'd be the one I'd get if I were buying a new one. Add a wireless adapter for like 50 bucks, and you'll be set for many sleepless nights shooting at people from all across the country.

I have a 20 gig Pro, I think that's what it was called, and it RROD'd me once, but Microsoft was great about getting it fixed and back to me in no time.

I have had the 3 rings of death twice, both times xbox covered it for free. I have talked to the wife, and the next time she goes out imma just get a new one. Im obsessed with my xbox, and when Modern Warfare 2 comes out myself and about 4 co-workers will be lucky to stay married and employed.

I would get an xbox with a twenty gigabyte hardrive if you plan on just playing games, but if your going to put music and movies on it I would get one with a bigger hard drive otherwise there is no need to have all that extra space. I wouldnt buy a used or refurbished one just because there has been some problems in the past as said like the red ring of death and overheating problems in the early versions, but the ones in stores now seem to have all the bugs worked out. For shooting games I would try the call of duty games, they have the older one which is still a ton of fun Call of Duty 4 modern warefare, they also have World at War and a new one comes out in a month using modern weapons again. Those have been the only real true shooting games that I have enjoyed, the gameplay is awesome and really realistic. Also if you get xbox live go with the yearly memberships its like $50 and you can also link your netflix if you have that wirelessly to your xbox and it connects with your computer also to watch movies instantly online.. its an awesome feature. Hope it helps. Also if you buy a headset dont buy a wireless one go with a hard wired, the wireless ones work for about a year then they just poop the bed and dont work.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I guess I will hafta hold off on the purchase for right now and save up to buy a new one.

I don not plan on putting music or movies on it, just playing games is all.

Well, time to start saving! Unless anyone on here wants to sell me theirs!

:-)

There is nothing wrong with the refurb units if you want to get one cheaper. I have been running a referb 360 for 2 years with no problems. If you don't mind not having a warranty then go for a refurb from ebay. I love my 360's (2 of them) I have one in my game room and in my living room where I can stream movies and pictures and music from my media center pc. I also like that I can stream movies over the netflix addon even without a computer now. As far as gaming it is in my oppinion much better than the ps3, the games seem too look better from my 360 than my ps3, plus there are a lot more good games for the 360. My ps3 gets used mainly for blueray now and thats about it.

I'd save your money and buy new.

I forget the name of the package I got, but it was the middle one (not barebones, not luxury... think... XLT). Came with everything I needed to get going on Xbox live. Hard drive is plenty big enough.

Another suggestion I would give is to get the rechargeable battery pack/charging station that Microsoft sells. I always said I didn't need it, but those controllers eat double A batteries like nothing... recharge kit was 25$ and has already paid for itself numerous times over.

ok, don't buy a used one off ebay or something like that.. make SURE you get the warranty. i've went through 12 xbox 360's since halo first came out on it... don't get me wrong it takes its abuse... but me and my wife both game ALOT, so we rip through them.

i bought my last one (it's still working!) at best buy. it's the black elite model with 120gb hd i believe and i paid right at $300 for it.

you get on xbox live, add me. CQC COMBAT VET

i play modern warfare. lets play.. i'll show you what shooting fish in a barrel means

X100 on don't buy a used one on eBay, I did and got the RRoD a month later and the seller wouldn't take it back. I ended up going out to Best Buy the next day and buying a arcade and swapped my hard drive over. I'm going to fix the eBay one and mod it
