Really?
you said that there were problems with the 4x4 system in a dakota so that doesnt count. The styling and ergonomics are all opinions and i actually like the way they look. I never said the transmission problems were not a big deal just that i was aware of it. Replacing the front end parts at 100k miles like posted isnt a big deal either, thats better than the 50k miles with the IFS.

As for why i would ask this question on a ford forum its because i know that there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here when it comes to vehicles in general, not just fords.

Replacing the front end parts around 100K is standard I'd say. Anybody care to guess how long a Super Duty can go before it needs ball joints?

My Strokes front end lasted 130k.....Tears... That was a BIG bill....
I have worked on a crap ton of Cummins, and if i got a new truck I would get another Cummins. My cummins was fast as hell and i got 21 mpg average... Try that in a hemi... In the end you will spend more money in fuel with the hemi, than the difference in a cummins powered mega cab.

Ditto.

Even with a broke tranny I still got 20+ mpg.

like everyones saying if you want a gas motor look away from a dodge and consider a ford, not sure what large motor chevy is using these days in the new body style, i know the 6.0 is one gas option but still not sure if its enough motor for the truck, only have driven one and it didn't seem like a turd, but compared to the diesel i drove 10 minutes before (same exact truck except for motors) i could tell it wasn't as powerful, but not saying its bad either

the v10 should be pleanty (if youd consider a ford), i think chevy had like an 8.1 up until 2006, not sure how powerful it actually is but im sure that'd be pleanty of power to keep you happy with it. downside with a chevy is your getting IFS and not a straight axle but if that doesn't matter to you then take that truck into consideration as well.

good luck with what ever you decide.

a v10 250 or 350 will be awesome it has a ton of torque for a gasser
my dad has a 450 Flat bed for his business that he got when they stopped making the 7.3 so he could not find a Diesel so he ended up getting the V10 just because thats all they had and it is a pretty powerful motor even loaded with a flat bed and Diesel air compresser in the bed and whole bunch of tools the truck has a 105 thousand on it too and still stock motor and transmission

Most 2500-3500 SRW Chevys that are gas will have a 6.0... They get a whopping 11 MPG highway. This was in a loaded GMC 2500 CC SB 4x4 owned by my g/f's dad. Flat ground (STL to Springfield, IL), running 75-80.
