dodge mega cab?
Any advice? Yeah, stay the hell away. You're buying a 3/4 truck with 1/2 ton badges and weight ratings, with a super thirsty V-8 motor which will get you 13 MPG highway on a good day. The A/C on them isn't poor, it flat out SUCKS. And, rear seat room isn't that much better than a crew cab Ford.
My dad has a 4x4 Dakota Laramie crew cab with the 4.7. It has 55k miles. 4X4 system went out, the front end squeaks rattles and rolls. It makes noises like a submarine 200 meters under water when you go over a bump or speed bump. It rides like a bucket of bricks. The ergonomics are a joke. The inside is the worse setup of a car or truck I've ever seen. Its so uncomfortable.
I cant believe dodge sells trucks compared to ford and chevy.
The 4.7 does have some ***** but doesn't make up for it being such an ugly truck both inside and out. And it pisses me off so bad inside its so uncomfortable. Bad placement of everything, cup holders, buttons, etc.
Please don't buy a dodge, you'll regret it, mark OUR words!!!!

YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY WITH THE HEMI! Let me tell you buddy, if i HAD to get a mega cab, it would be a 2007 2500 5.9 with the 6 spd standard. Try to stay away from the 6.7 but If you do end up with one, be sure to do a DPF delete and tuner... but with the 03+ dodge 4x4s plan on getting a complete front end at 100k. Thats about the point where they all need ball joints and all that fun stuff. Anyways it is going to be your truck so if YOU like it GET IT!!! But thats just a very small motor to push a 8 lug truck...
The '05 on Dodges are horrible...
If you can... try to find a good 2000 - 2002 Dodge 2500 with the 5.9 and a 6 speed manual 4x4. You will not regret it. Plus it looks like a real truck.
Hate to say it... but Ford, Dodge, and Chevy have turned tough working machines into simple passenger cars these days. Yes, that includes that shoddy 6.4l TD.
It sucks that the new generation is forced into it, and no one is rebelling.
How can people go on without standard shift? That's just wrong.

so the only useful info about the truck itself is to watch for the transmission which i know has always been a problem with dodge trucks. i don't care about the gas mileage i only drive about 10k miles a year so that doesn't matter. The other thing someone said is that they had rear end problems, what kind of problems? I don't want a diesel, i have no use for it the heaviest thing my truck hauls is me. I don't expect for anyone on here to like the truck, i am just looking for opinions on the reliability. The only reason i am looking at the mega cab is for the extra space in the backseat. In my truck now even being a screw i have to have the seat way forward to fit the car seat and it doesn't leave much room for the wife up front.
There have been many complaints here: Tranny, front end, rear end, 4x4 sys, ergonomics, and styling.
You are saying a tranny problem is not a big deal and are worried about rear end problems more?
Really?

LOL man - I wish I could record the sound. Basically, like its about to fall apart. There is a dirt road we use for a short cut into town but is real bumpy. My dad gets pissed when I take it in his truck. I'm like why did you get a 4x4 if you cant take it down a dirt road.
He says so it don't fall apart

Ya know - I think I've asked Manual about 6 times now whether his Dodge was automatic or manual - and he has ignored me EVERY TIME. You just cannot TELL what it is from all his rambling posts about how his Dodge broke down on the way home from the dealer.
Come on - just answer the question directly.
