Ipod/Iphone Guys

I just went out and bought a new 32G Ipod Touch. ( I would get an Iphone but AT&T sucks in my town )

Anyways, what are some good Apps and stuff to put on this thing? I have my 2,000 songs on it and a couple music videos right now...

If you know any good Apps. for:

Stock Markets
Shooting
Movie show times
Football game scores
maybe News Alerts

I also heard about there is some kind of app. you can get that will turn your Ipod touch into an Iphone. Someone one saying you can use the headphones with the mic. attached to it. I don't know the name of it.

I also keep hearing this phrase, "jail break it" What does that mean?

Can't help you with those requests. I have Awesome Notes, a calculator, & a couple of time wasters. Look at Kil.A.Ton

Jailbroke refers to a hacked device. You hack a device to allow access to hidden/disabled features.

Once the device (ipod touch) has been hacked you can install software that will allow you to make phone calls. But not like a cell phone. The calls you can make are VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocal). This means you would only be able to make calls where you have a WiFi signal. This is not the same as a wireless broadband signal for cell phones, but rather a signal that allows you to access the internet with your laptop wirelessly. VOIP is the same technology that Vonage (www.vonage.com), Skype (www.skype.com), Magic Jack (www.magicjack.com) or various other companies provide. My research into this indicates that you cannot use the iPhone headphones on the iTouch.

pocket tanks- fun
beer pong-fun but kinda short
monkey ball- its cost but is super fun and hard
basic gps-GREAT gps to include all formats

I've got a jailbroken iPod touch 2nd gen. It's sweet because you don't have to pay for apps...

Check your local craigslist to ppl that can jailbreak ipods...they do it around here for $10-$15.

I recently bought the same ipod as you and have a few apps.

Scrabble is pretty cool, I also have
- Movie Genie
- Things you should know
- 21000 famous quotes
- 2009 world factbook.

Some of them cost a few bucks, and they are all a lot of fun and great time wasters if your waiting at the doctors office or whatever.

For movies I use the Flixter app:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/movies/id284235722?mt=8

or IMDb app:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imdb/id342792525?mt=8

The Flixster one is great for finding showtimes, theaters in your area, viewing trailers and finding out what is coming out soon. IMDb basically has every fact about every movie, TV show or series ever created. Entire cast listing, directors producers, etc. If you select one of these it will tell you each persons info (birthdate, hometown, and every project theyve ever worked on) Its pretty awesome and detailed.

For sports I use scoremobile:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/score...285692706?mt=8

Its pretty awesome. It covers every sport you can think of and updates the play each 2 minutes. You can keep up with a game if your in a meeting at work or wherever.

Other than that, just go to the app store and browse. Start by looking at the top 25 (paid and free) and you will more than likely open a can of worms you will never close. Have fun man.

If you ever pay to jailbreak your just dumb. Takes under 30 seconds and you have to click one button.

I didn't jailbreak mine so I could steal cost apps. I love the ability to background apps and have one swipe access to all my settings. Being able to turn my phone into a wi-fi router to use with my laptop is fantastic as well.

Sorry, no recommendations on those types of apps as I don't use them. We have a couple threads on here about favorite and great apps that a quick search could find for you though, you should check it out.

For sports try:
College football - you select the teams you want to follow and it gives live stat updates as game is being played plus scores. Also ESPN Sports Center.

Around Me is a great ap fo finding anything nearby from an Apple store to banks, bars, coffee houses, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, theates, and so on.

WiFi Locator is a must to find a wifi spot when you most need it.

You wouldn't believe how many iPods I have jailbroken...some people are scared and think there's some type of programming involved. The 3G break is a lot easier than the 1G and 2G breaks.

Oh yeah, a few more:

Youversion (The Holy Bible)
Shazam (records a segment of a song and tells you artist, album, etc.)
Ebay (easier than actual ebay)
TrackerLite (track packages from UPS, FedEx, DHL, and USPS on one app)
Bandsintown
Amazon (reminders is awesome - take a pic of a product, it will take you to where its sold on Amazon)
ShopSavvy (scan a bar code with your camera and it tells you places to buy with results filtered by lowest price both local and online.)
