Riding mower

Hey guys, I know theres been a few threads on mowers in the past. But I am faced with buying a new mower by next season. I am not going to be getting another push mower, I have had it with pushing lawns.

The type of lawn I have is very unlevel, above ground roots in one section and pretty much all on some type of slope. Yeah its probley the worst yard you could have, or at least it butts right up next to the worst. I am currently looking at a Snapper mower, you know the classic looking one with the solid blade for clean cuts.

Heres a picture..

Any of you guys have this? If so man, I know some of you boys, girls men watever have some nasty lawns to mow. I need to find me one that is going to do the job with the most ease. I don't want to get really expensive on it, my neighbor lets me use his riding tractor mower its a craftsmen the traditional type and its a replication of chity chity bang bang bouncing all over the place. I was thinking all that weight being on the back of that mower might help keep the bouncing down.

Chime in fellas help me out here. thanks.

Snapper makes a good mower. My dad just replaced his 20 year old Snapper with a new Snapper. The old one still ran fine but the deck was about shot.

I have a Snapper yardcruiser, with the 3 blade 48 inch deck. My parents have a 20 inch single blade deck on their snapper. I highly recomend the multi blade decks. Two or more shorter blade, give a much cleaner cut than a single 20 inch blade.

His lot is on a big hill. No problems. Lot is about an acre.

i second the cub cadet. 4 acres of grass to mow, trees are the border and one side butts up to a wetland. cubby (the mower) has no problems with any of it.

had to pull my truck with it once too. sounds like we have the same mower buck.

I have the 2 blade, 48" cut troy bilt that I use on similiar terrian. I'm in my 3rd year of mowing with it and no complaints. All I've replaced on it was a deck belt which broke when a tree limb got caught up in it.

You cannot go wrong with a Deere! I have a X-595 Diesel, absolutely love it. Huge power & torque yet great fuel ecomomy. I have to say that I am also highly impressed with Bobcat's new line of compact tractors also! I looked at one the other day. Finally Deere has some worthy competition!.....

Go look at an older John Deere 300 series tractor they are built much better than anything you can buy new today and its almost impossible to kill them. I just picked up a 78 John Deere 312 with 48in deck and a 54in hydraulic snow plow for $850 on E-Bay and it runs and cuts better than any of the newer mowers that I have used.

Yeah, see im kinda clustered on what to do at this moment. Id say I have at least another 4 years in this particular location. Theres not even but .6 acres to mow, and plenty of weedeating to go around. But once my time here is up, where I plan to build there is 30 acres of land. Probley will only cut 5 or so on my property.

Its kinda like do I buy a big one now for later, or buy a small one now and big one later. I could imagine waiting and seeing if a small tractor would be best for up there. We have two Ford tractors but they have age on them, u ever know when there gonna be finished. I am going to go hop on a Forest Gump snapper today, see how I like it. Then get the neighbor hes got one to ride over my worst parts of the yard see how shes does.

From the sounds of it those cubs don't sound to bad just that wide of a cut I don't need.

Pick up a used commercial walk behind for now, 48" deck. If it does not work out for the next place it will still be worth the $1000 or so you pay now. I love my Toro commercial WB.

Nothing runs like a Deere! I have 10 acres which only about 4-6 have to be mowed. I have a G110 with a 54" cut and a SX95 that we have had and has to be close to 20 years old with a 38" cut and still runs strong. The SX95 is a rear engine similar to what you have pictured. It's fine for up around the house and in tight spots. But if your ground is hilly or rough in areas which mine is also then the little rear rider won't be the best. The small tires don't handle ruts and bumps well and the weight in the rear makes the center of gravity weird and it will feel tippy on slopes. I highly suggest that you get a front engine rider with a wider track and larger tires if your ground is rough and hilly. Deere will cost a little more up front but more than pays for itself in the long run!
