No, it is still his father's gun as it is still registered to his father as he said himself a couple times.
Planning to use a weapon is premeditation, and that is illegal.

Also, from an earlier post...

Sec. 46.06. UNLAWFUL TRANSFER OF CERTAIN WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person:

(1) sells, rents, leases, loans, or gives a handgun to any person knowing that the person to whom the handgun is to be delivered intends to use it unlawfully or in the commission of an unlawful act;

(2) intentionally or knowingly sells, rents, leases, or gives or offers to sell, rent, lease, or give to any child younger than 18 years any firearm, club, or illegal knife;

I fully understand the law. I do not understand what your point is in quoting it back to me. If the gun is registered to his father it is his father's gun. If his father gave it to him then he should now register it in his name so his father is not held liable for his actions.

Do not get hung up on my choice of the word "plan". He answered my question to my satisfaction himself.

You NEVER shoot to KILL. You are/were in fear of your life and you shot until you felt the threat was neutralized.

I think you miss FatherFord's point.

He's trying to tell you that if you use lethal force to defend yourself, don't be telling the nice officers that you were 'shooting to kill'.

Instead, choose your words carefully, and emphasize that you were threatened and you had to use your gun to neutralize the threat.

Gurt, judging by your additude problem, I would suggest keeping your fathers gun at home safely locked away with your power rangers and barbie dolls.

Don't see the need for an 18 year old to be rolling around with heat anyways. If you "hope and pray you'll never need to pull it", I don't see why it need's to be in your proverbial holster. It's one thing to go to the range and plink away, but this is different. There's a reason you can't go get your CCW till the age of 21-- You will do a lot of maturing in the coming years, this is not insult, it's fact.
