Honestly he was just trying to get you to buy the more expensive camera. You can' compare the D40 and a point and shoot. Yes it has more megapixels but the sensor size on the D40 is huge compared to a P&S. Like its been said before a few times, you won't notice the difference between the D40 or D3000 unless your cropping heavily where you'll still lose quality no matter what or printing very big images.

x2. Your camera guy either was trying to make a sale or doesn't know what he's talking about. If you have even the slightest clue what you're doing a 6 mp DSLR will blow a 10+ MP P&S out of the water every day.

Isn't it true there is virtually no difference between a 6 mp DSLR and a 10 mp DSLR up to 8 1/2 X 11?

Edit: sorry mblouir I should have read the other thread first, you confirmed my statement over there!

Na, man, it's all good. Yeah unless you print 11x17s or crop heavily the difference is negligible.


OP: Regardless of our ragging on your camera guy, you got a great camera with the D3000 man! Hope you enjoy it!
