I was sleeping - I had just come off of night shift. My wife woke me up to look at the news. The first report had said it was an accident, maybe an air traffic controller had screwed up. While we were watching the news, Fox had a live shot going as the second plane hit.

I was remodeling a house in downtown Annapolis right across the Severn river from the US Naval Academy. First heard the news on the job site radio. No one on the job site could get a cell phone connection at first, so the super sent us all home since we were so close to Naval base and the Pentagon had just been hit.

I still remember that afternoon when my mom was picking me up from school... we always drive over a large bridge that is in a big part of town with a large interstate running all around it.

There was a young guy (about 25) with a 10 foot pole and a huge american flag attached to it. He was standing up on the side of the bridge waving it with all his might during heavy traffic. I saw him on the news later that night. He was their waving it for 6 hours straight.....

All you have to do is change the 'Sort By' feature from Descending to Ascending, located at the bottom of General Discussion Forum page.

9/11/01 is around Page 124, the short threads are there.
However, many of 9/11 GD threads ran for weeks so they would be on pages > 124.

I was on Duty Listening to Howard Stern when he was on terrestrial radio back then! He said a plane had struck the WTC. I did not realize the size of the plane, until I got to a TV! Then the other plane struck the other tower, I screamed outloud &*(^%$ Bin Laden). I knew in my gut who was behind it. The rest of the day I was in my cruiser at the docks looking at the nearby airport where the jets land, hoping that one was not going to come down! I was also trying to call my sister in Manhattan NYC, however the phone lines were jammed, then my mom called me & stated that she, my brother-in-law & the kids were OK! I was glued to the TV when I got off duty till 0200Hrs! I woke up on the 12th very pissed!.....

In 5th grade, my teacher was called on her cell by a family member and we were kept up to date via her source, and she let us know that 2 planes hit the WTC, one by one, we were told in pretty good detail.. had no clue what it was, but i knew many had died... My teacher did not shelter us like it seems many had... My principal came out at around 11- 11:30 and told us in detail what had happened, and if we wanted to go home, we could call home for a ride. There were a few students who's parents worked in or around the WTC, and they were scared and crying and went home... turns out they were all okay though... i stayed for the day, and my parents told me even more when i got home... they had bought a small TV for their office to keep up to date as to what was happening, still have that TV ( little 6" with rabit ears) as memorabilia...

being so close to ground zero probably was a bit different for me then those of you in say Texas or California...
