I think I missed something.

Edit:

After going back, I don't see a problem with McDonald's making a special effort to be pro-black in it's outreach for employees. (Though it may be a little insulting to some Blacks.) Around here, there are lot's of first generation Hispanics (and other immigrants) working at the fast food joints, and language barriers exist that challenge management and customer service. McDonald's (and fast food work in general) is seen as the lowest job you can take. Trying to change that image with English speaking people, who are in need of jobs, is just good business... If it works. A large percentage of the Black community doesn't feel like you are speaking to them, unless you make it clear that you are.

I don't know. The more I think about it the less controversial I think it may be.

I mean, why is it such a big deal that they are reaching out to Black people to try to get them to eat and work more at McD's?

Maybe they just did some kind of study that showed that black people eat at their restaurant less than any other demographic.

It's really just marketing. It's not for the advancement of black people over other races.

Or, maybe, the fries sucked at Wendy's just now and I want to talk myself back to the Golden Arches for a BigMac, Fries, and a Coke and not feel guilty!!

I still can't seem to find the WET channel or locate the NAAWP...Wonder why that is?

Hats off to MickeyDs, for continuing to divide this country more than it already has been.
We have WET, we just can't call it WET. It's called TNN (Dukes of Hazzard, monster trucks, country music) and Spike TV.

In all seriousness, it's pretty racist that McDonald's would give preferential treatment to anyone.

Per McDonalds website the following:

At McDonald's®, we believe that African-American culture and achievement should be celebrated 365 days a year — not just during Black History Month. That's the idea behind 365Black.com. It's a place where you can learn more about education, employment, career advancement and entrepreneurship opportunities, and meet real people whose lives have been touched by McDonald's. Plus, you can also have a chance to win exciting once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. So make sure you visit often — you just might get inspired.
I don't have any issues with anybody celebrating any achievements but when you single one ethnic group of folks to recognize, that's racism to the max. I don't eat at McDonalds because I think their food is one click below garbage. I can assure you things will not change at my house and I won't stop at any McDonalds for this reason.

Ok, dudes. You've forced me to post this yet again about this "WET" television debate.

1 - BET Television was owned by Robert Johnson, black guy.
2 - Robert Johnson sold BET Television to Viacom years ago.
3 - Viacom is owned by, yep, white guys.
4 - Viacom's programming isn't about black or white, it's about green.
5 - Green conquers all.

Class dismissed. - Og

This reminded me of a few years ago when McDonalds was looking to have P.Diddy; or was it Puffy, or Puff Daddy, or Sean Combs, anyway..., Russell Simmons, or Tommy Hilfiger design new more "HIP" uniforms for employees. What audience do you think they were targeting with that idea?

I just visited the site. I am gonna go so far as to say that they are exploiting black people (Is that PC?) Anyway, think about it, we'll take a bunch of pictures of Black people with out chains and without a basketball so they will eat here. Does this make them slaves to corporate culture? Not for me to decide. My question is what kind of person will not look past the front they are putting on.

And before I get off my box, I HATE that damn song "Oh hot dam dis is my jam, gonna thro my heands in da aiyer, ai aiyer!"

I completely agree. This isn't about BET or anything else though. I think that statement sidetracked this thread. While "white guys" do own BET, and the majority if not all the execs @ MickeyD's are probably white also (didn't check but I am guessing that is probably true), the whole point is the "color labels" that must be assigned to everything. It is beyond me why the majority of society finds this an "acceptable" practice when everyone b*tches about making the playing field level. All this does is catagorize people into certain races and exploit them even more based on their color. How can anyone ever hope for equality amoungst the races when you have organizations, programming, and now BIG BUSINESSES specifically singling out certain races in particular, good or bad, it's still exploiting them for profit... I guess McD's doesn't think there's much money in exploiting whites, asians and latinos. Just because the "white guys" are running the show behind the scenes doesn't mean that this is OK. If these execs were all "black" and they started 365white.com, you would still see me as upset. But, that has yet to happen and doubt it ever will.

Labnerd said it best "I don't have any issues with anybody celebrating any achievements but when you single one ethnic group of folks to recognize, that's racism to the max. "

Personally, I think about the only time "color labels" should be used is by law enforcement when describing suspects. There's probably other "acceptable" examples but that is the biggest one that comes to mind.

I think Slavery of one ethnic group would be racism to the max.
