Dad is back in a Ford
Proud to say that my dad is back in a Ford. He went and bought a 2010 Ford Fusion SE today. Dark grey color with dark grey cloth. 4 banger, 6 speed manual, alloy wheels. Nice car. Got it for just under $15K using the D plan. Sad part is that to get it that low, we are clunkering our 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which we are the original owners of. Its in good shape too.
Picking the Fusion up tomorrow, and dropping the Jeep off.

Sounds like a good deal. The clunkers thing definitely would be tough to do though. There was part of a story in my local newspaper about an older lady breaking down in tears after finding out what was going to happen to her car after she traded it in.
My mom was pissed when she found out what they do to it. It's her Jeep. Dad ordered it for her... She's now getting dad's "old" 2005 Dakota. Nice truck, but nowhere near as many options as the Jeep.
Jeep has been listed for sale for 3 weeks now, and I didn't even get so much as a call or email on it. Not even a spammer.

I hear ya' on the car crusher thing -- I've had several people offer me money for my old '97 Ranger now that I have a new one. In each instance, I've thought to myself, "He won't take care of it right, so I'd rather hold on to it until I find someone who won't beat it to death for the rest of it's time on the road!"
It seems kind of foolish to me that these cars have to be crushed -- many of them likely have some very serviceable mileage left in them for someone who doesn't have a lot of coin to spend.
