Question Is it worth it?

Hey all, so I'm turning in my '98 F150 into the Cash For Clunkers program to get $4500 towards a new car. My truck is lucky to get 10mpg, so it shouldn't be a problem getting the full amount.

Anyway I've got a SnugTop Tonneau cover, Westin Bull Bars and BedRug and was thinking before turning this in, to try and sell these items. As for the Tonneau cover, that may be a problem because I don't know what models this will fit and then of course the color matches my truck, a standard color, but still, makes it that much more hard to find a buyer plus, shipping would be a problem if I can't find a buyer locally. As for the BedRug, not sure if that will fit other models as well.

I know any extra $ is good, but might these things be so specific to my vehicle that it would be difficult to find a buyer? Or is it even worth trying?

Thanks!

Is it a reg cab? styleside, flairside, long bed, short bed, what color?. I would also, take out a good battery and put in old one, if the tires/rims are good sell them and put on crap ones. In any case take off all mod's and sell them, 1997-2002 f-150's are the same so selling the stuff will be easy.
What ya buying?

It wouldn't hurt to take things off. You're not going to get a lower trade-in amount if you strip it.

I believe Ron has a
White F150 Flareside SuperCab Lariat 4x4

I'd strip her clean and only leave what makes her legal.
Come on Ron, take that tailgate off.
You know how much that costs!

You could probably make an extra grand if you strip it right.
Do you have any idea how much those signal mirrors cost?

You got some time, they are throwing another 2 billion into the pot.

RonLariat...I am very interested in the tailgate, I think it is the same part as a SCREW tailgate and I need one.

Wow, I didn't expect this kind of reponse! I guess the answer is simple! I'll have to go through what I've added, there's a ton of stuff in there!

I don't know if the clunker process will allow me to remove the tailgate, but I'll find out.

But here's a pic from the back (of course this picture was taken like 6 years ago, my poor truck doesn't look this good anymore).

I used to have a gallery on here, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Thanks guys.

Although I'm completely disgusted with the program, I don't blame people drinking the Kool-aid and doing it.

I would look into on how much you can actually strip of the vehicle and turn it in. If it just has to drive on the lot I would strip that truck as much as possible then junk it. I'm talking the bed and everything. Just make sure you can do it before you start stripping.

I bet you could sell a '98 F150 4x4 for about $4K. Hunting season is coming up, someone's bound to need a truck to thrash around in the woods with. Instead of a perfectly good vehicle being blowed up, it'll get reused by someone else, and you can have cold, hard cash in your hand to put down on a new car. Win/win.

Using a "Fair" condition and 132,000 miles (the national average yearly mileage driven is something like 12K/year), that truck Blue Books at about $6200 for a private party sale. To kill it in a Cash for Clunkers trade is stupid.
