I am pretty sure on my first reading of renounciation at the State Departments website that this issue was ambiguous enough to warrant further investigation. I found out that a person is only obligated to pay any taxes that are/were previously due. In other words, NO, you cannot be taxed without representation.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to renounce US citizenship however.

I might do that!

Do you provide a free old age pension so I don't have to save for retirment?

How about reduced rate medical care - of course, only the best kind will do.

Stay away from Canada. I'm trying to find a decent place to escape to. US was my option, but with the advent of the Patriot Act and Obama, I'm not sure if it's any better than Canada. Canda has enough of its own issues.

Gun control is retarded here and that is my major sticking point. If you have guns in the US and do move to Canada, you will not be allowed to import them. If you want a gun here, you're only allowed to buy a pistol/revolver with a barrel length of more than 4.25". They must always be locked up, unless you are at a gun range shooting them. You must get permission to transport them anywhere. You may never carry them for protection unless it's part of your job (money is more important to the government than your life).

Also, say goodbye to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It's Peace, Justice and Good Government (oxymoron anyone?), here.

Every presidency has its issues but we overcome. Or go further down from previous commanders in cheif. Either way, this is my home and im going no where. Anyone who is thinking about leaving, should, and not return. Your mother land will make sure the door dont hit you where the lord split ya. But watch out for the minutemen if you choose to come back.

I love America, but I worry about the future. So, any other great places to live where I don't have to worry about being raped by taxes and government control. Of course, it's got to be friendly to Americans.

There is no reason to leave. The USA is the greatest place because of the people not the government.

The people who are in our government might wat to "remake" America into something that doesn't at all resemble what generations of all of our families worked for and built. This shouldn't make us want to leave. We should want to stay right where we are to make sure that the people who want to "remake" what our families have built don't have success. This is our country. It's the peoples country. We should be pretty damn pissed off that anyone would want to remake it.

My only gripe with Canada is the health care. I used to go up to Mississauga, Ontario for hockey for about two weeks, every year. Extremely nice people, pretty clean, Weather comparable to New England as I'm used to.

One of the years I took a hit from behind into the boards and had to go to the E.R. with a decent concussion and a possible life-long injury to the spine............ and I had to wait.

Quickly ended any serious thoughts of moving up there.

Other than that, U.S. is the only place I would live, but damn, it's sad to know we've fallen to a position where it is really considered.

I dunno about the other 49 but its the same way in AZ. Unless you have multiple bullet holes, something protruding from you or are second from death, you wait at least 2 hours. And even in said conditions, ya still wait, just not as long.

Well, I live in Boston so I suppose I'm lucky... but your not going to wait here if you've got no feeling from your waist down.

You're welcome to come to Canada if you want even tougher gun laws, higher taxes and want to be surrounded by Liberals and Frenchmen. Other than that it's a great place to live.
Don't forget almost no jail time too.

Lol, yeah, most stuff is a slap on the wrist. Similar terms for murder and the such, but the government here is a bunch of bleeding hearts. There's no capital punishment and they're more worried about people with improperly stored firearms than robberies and the such. Don't bother injuring someone if they steal your stuff. Property ownership is not a right here. You'll be taken in for assault, even if that guy was stealing your hard earned stuff.

FWIW, the courts just ordered California to release 48,000 prisoners from state prisons over the next 2 years.

Turns out the courts feel that the prisoner's health care coverage is not as good as it should be, and the solution is to let them go.
