They are draining the oil and putting in 2 qts water and 1lb sand. The engine is started and the hammer dropped on the gas. It takes about 1 minute and the engine locks up. Here it is in action:

For those not in the know, the vehicles engine MUST be destroyed and the car salvaged for the metals. If it is a running collector car- too bad.

Wow, that Oldsmobile engine sounded like it would have gone another 240,000 miles, until the death solution killed it! ........

What a horrible concept IMO....I understand they are willing to take a car that is a dead POS, but if someone is wanting to trade in an old car that is still running ok why destroy it? I guess there is something to the program I don't understand.

They make it so the engine cannot be resold. I thought I read somewhere that the dealers or whomever hold the cars for 30 - 60 days and that they were required to turn in the engine/frame, but nothing was stopping them from parting them out. I could be wrong though. Regardless, everything is melted down and reused, metals, plastics, etc.

You think that was is bad, look at this video. A fairly recent Volvo, and right next to it a fairly recent Ranger.

If it did not catch on fire it may have ran out of gas before it died, that Volvo was refusing to go out.....what a shame

I thought the same thing, instead lets keep forking out welfare checks and blowing up good cars.
