The price on the 870 is also right where I want to spend for now so its looking like that might end up being my first gun.

you can get a good mil-spec springfield 1911 for like $600. I think the GI model is like $500.

If you want a 1911, look into the Rock Island Arms lineup. Their GI model can be purchased on Gunbroker for around $370. As for a true beginner gun, I would take the 22lr route. Some ranges, like our local public range, don't allow shotguns. The first rifle that I purchased was a Marlin 925m 22 mag. Its more expensive to shoot than a 22lr but not as bad as my 1911 .45 acp.

Remington 870 is a good choice, it is better made than the Mossy. Do you want a skeet shooting shotgun? hunting? defense?

It would be mainly for target and skeet shooting.

Go to Walmart and pick up a Ruger 10/22, cheap to shoot and fun. Great gun to learn the fundamentals of shooting on.

Go to the Syracuse Gun show in the fall, they call it the sportsmans show. Ill be in the city when I go back to school in the fall and usually go every year. Last year I picked up a Romanian ak-47 for $350 with 40 round clips and buy ammo from cabelas its $124 for 500 rounds and also pick up a Bushmaster ar-15 and ammo from cabelas runs about $145 for 500 of that. Both great guns.

I usually buy wolf the price has gone up alot over the summer I see but check this out $154
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...set=ISO-8859-1
The round work well for just put through those guns not shooting to much for accuracy just spray and pray
I just looked in the Cabelas Gun Supply catalog from 2008 and has Wolf 7.62 x 39, 500 rounds for $124.99 and now there $152.99 and .223 is $138.99 and now is $189.99 when not on sale. Pretty Ridiculous how much ammo has gotten to be, its to bad cause it was nice to know you werent going to just shoot $ signs out your barrel cause 40 rounds goes pretty quick.

get an m4/ar15 and do a .22 conversion...you can shoot it all day long and 1000 rounds usually costs under $10 really fun gun to shoot and if you ever want to shoot normal .223 the kit comes off in seconds.

Well its really like it seem like you buy some, then a couple months go by and its up another ten bucks a case, its all just hitting me now haha this sucks. Cause I usually buy like 5 or 6 cases for each gun at a time and im starting to get low on supply and now I dont want to reorder.

Those jam all the time and get very dirty, always have to clean it to keep it running. My friends have had a hard time with theirs.

There are quality .22 conversions, doesn't avoid the dirtiness of .22 though, and than there are cheap *** ones.
