Stories about recovering from medical setbacks

From July to December of last year I was training MMA and really got into it thanks to having a good club by my house and a fighter that sort of took me under his wing and taught me a lot. Then I got mono really bad, then three months later I got the flu. Then about a month ago I got my wisdom teeth out.

My problem is I thought I would be back training after like two months, but here it is over six months later and I'm still not back in it. Mono was just so hard on me, and I'll be a freshman at Tennessee in two weeks. I'm hoping I'll stick with my plans and join a club soon after I get up there and settled in.

So let's here it guys, share some of your stories about getting knocked out of the game for a while and your problems/successes getting back in it. Just curious, I guess.

I had a staff infection in 1st grade. I was out of school for over a month. Can't remember anything else about the issue.

I think I was out for so long is because I couldn't walk on my left foot without an excruciating pain running up my leg.

My father is Stage 4 Parkinson's. He can't tie his own shoes or button his shirt. Still works everyday, and never forgets to tell his children how important God is in their life and how much he loves us.

It's a strong testament to overcome something. How about having something you will never overcome? Get back in there if it's your desire. I know you can do it.

I had reconstructive surgery on my shoulder following high school. It was about a year and a half before I was lifting again. Then it was about another year and a half before I was really lifting hard.

When I was in highschool, I played hockey. During a game I got hit so hard that I bruised my lungs and started coughing up alot of blood. I guess my ribs bent inwards and hit my lungs pretty hard, making them bleed. Anyways, my doctor said no contact sports for the rest of the season and told me I was too skinny to be playing anything like hockey anyways and suggested I stop. Well F that. So while I was "resting" the rest of the season, I drank protein shakes and hit the weight room. I put on alot of muscle which helped my strength obviously, but also protected my lungs by putting more cushion over my ribs and lungs to absorb the another impact like that.

Well that was 3 years ago, never happened again. I moved on from hockey after my Senior Varsity Year....Now I play Rugby

when i was born i had a tendon that was to short in my left ankle so the doctors lengthened it or some ***** like that they put me in a cast till i was 6 months old. now my left foot is 1 1/2 to 2 sizes smaller than my right foot. i lived with it roughed necked with no problem got into the military even though i may have forgot to tell them about it and am doing well here come to think of it my feet dont have an easy life.

second im like 1st4x4 my mother passed away when i was 13 with lou gehrig's disease or als and up till the day she died she was i Internet consultant for big businesses. my grandpa made her a contraption so that it would hold her arms up so she could type (als degrades your muscles)

It all comes to what you want If you want something bad enough youll get. If your really wanting to do MMA ill look for some of my stuff on MCMAP moves and email it to you that why youll have another type of fighting to jack people up with

WOW these pain killers make it easy to type I may start writing a book lol

i used to train MMA 2 years back, but havent done it since my accident. i was snowboarding up at MT hood in oregon and went off a red flag jump and landed funky, snapped my binding, and landed straight on my spine and got knocked out. i was in a coma for 3 days, i had to learn how to re-walk, re-talk, and even how to eat. i had a minor brain hemorrhage, which prevented me from leaving the hospital for 3 weeks. but to be honest, ill never let anything hold me back. accidents and illnesses can happen to anyone at any time, which i witness everyday from being a medic. if u live life scared of getting hurt or getting sick, ull never be able to enjoy the life you were meant to have.

+1. Worst I've done is broken two bones in my hand, 2 and a half years ago. I punched the floor and let me tell you, they always win. In my defence, I had just found out my ex-wife was cheating and pregnant with his kid, but nevertheless the floor had no compassion. I was in a cast for 6 weeks and kept on working as a Loss Prevention Officer at a few stores. Even made one of my larger arrests with that cast.

Now, other than a slight bump on the bone, you wouldn't even know anything had happened. I'm aiming to become a cop at some point, hopefully soon.
