Red face Poor 05 5.4 throttle response

Hey Guys,
I have an 05 f150 Lariat with a 5.4 3V. I've had the computer reflashed with a factory police interceptor program, a K&N factory air filter replacement, the air intake tube modification recently posted here which really does work and a Gale Banks cat-back exaust. The truck has always had a somewhat sluggish throttle response and I wonder if there is any way of improving this issue. The dealership says its normal and has no idea for any fixes. Any help would be most helpful. Thanks Doug in AK.

Get a custom tune from Troyer Performance, VMP, etc. That will solve your throttle response problem.

I went with Troyer, there's usually fairly long wait to get your tune, but they're worth it.

Many people here are very satisfied with other tuner's products, so look around and go with what works for you.

Whoever you go with, the results from a good custom tune will be better than everything you've done so far combined.

^agreed. Custom tunes will add noticeable power and make the throttle response practically instant, as well as quicker/firmer shifts.

I don't know if you can, but maybe the throttle body is caked with carbon build up. It happens on all conventional TB's with an EGR valve, but yours is a built in TB into the intake manifold.

I had my truck since new and it was reflashed by the dealer twice. That helped eliminate the hesitation, but still no power. I bought an Edge withthe canned tunes and that was ahuge improvement. I the got the Gryphon custom tunes and they are awesome. Custom tunes are the way to go, with either the Xcal3 or the Gryphon.

X2! Visit the "Chips, Tuners, ...." forum and look around.

Getting a programmer will fix your throttle lag. I drove without my programmer for a couple hours yesterday and hated it.

Thanks for the info, think i'll try Troyers out and see what happens, also going to put on some Banks torque tubes to free up some more of that pent up energy. Doug
