Gas question?

Now that I got yall all in here with the misleading title. I have a question a guy I work with was telling me that the state he lived in for many years(can't remember which one) had a law that made it illegal to pump your own gas. I was wondering if there are still any places like this, and if so does it affect your gas prices? Here I know that if you can still find a full service station its about .10c a gallon more.

Oregon is another.

Infact, in Oregon, one of the seventeen different justifications they have for banning self-serve is the jobs created by requiring full service. Considering this, I imagine the price reflects the cost of employing the attendants.

In the 5 years I've been driving I've been to 1 self service station. I pulled up and shut off the truck, before I got out the guy had come over and started fiddling with the gas cap, I wasn't sure what he was doing and it freaked me out. I was ready to bust skulls I still stood next to him and watched him pump gas to make sure he didn't spill any on the side of the truck

Yup, Oregon is still doing it! Everytime I roll into the state while trucking I see the prices are generally less than here in Washington. I believe it's mostly due to Oregon not having a sales tax.

ive always heard that is is more cost effective because it eliminates drive offs and people that try to leave with the pump still in the car.

Yep, like stated above, NJ is one. Gas is actually pretty cheap here compared to other places. So, I don't think it effects the prices at all.
Just weird when I travel home and go get gas. I'll sit at the pump in my truck for about a minute or two getting anxious until I realize, I gotta pump my own gas there. Gets me everytime.

My ubderstanding is that there is very little profit on gasoline---pennies on the gallon, maybe. Here in Ohio, because of the slim profit margin, and very, very few full service stations, gas station like Speedway and Sheetz make a ton of money on coffee and food. Sheets has some pretty good sandwiches.
