I gotta step in here and point out that traditional powder Fire extinguishers are going to end up leaving a mess. I don't just mean a clean up issue. I mean they are corrosive and impossible to clean out of Electronics. Eventually they will do what the fire didn't. I highly recommend you spend the money and buy one of the Halon or Halotron types that are commonly used in Racing and Computer/Electronics rooms. You can still get Halon but also the synthetic replacement of halotron does the job. They cost more but they not only will save the vehicle from the fire but they will do no further harm.

Read up on it and see. Many a car or electronics has been permanently ruined by Dry Chem fire extinguishers. Not only that but it will eat at the paint, plastics and eventually ruin everything it touched. There are better options but they are more expensive.

Summit carries these Halotrons in several sizes. I have one each in all four of my vehicles.

Read my sad story about car fire that I posted here:

Good call. That's why I warned about powder down the intake and mentioned CO2 instead. I also figured most posters wouldn't pony up the extra coin for a CO2 or Halotron extinguisher.

A quick look turns up small CO2 & Halotrons in the $100 range. If you truly value your vehicle it's cheap insurance. But I'd bet most folks will pick up a $20 conventional or marine extingisher at the local BigBox store.
