Seacrow, check out the Shadow Riders Forum, it's at Delphi.com, then do a search for Shadow Riders. It has all kinds of information about all the Shadow motorcycles, plus links to various other brands of cycles. I have been a member of the Shadow Riders Forum almost since it started. As for myself, I have a 1999 Shadow Spirit, before that I had a 1998 Shadow 750 ACE. I really like the Valkyrie also, I've seen new left over 1998 Std. Valkyries for sale as low as $8995. Best thing is that my wife likes the Valkyries also, so I wouldn't get into too much trouble for buying one. Hope this helps.

2000 TL1000R

Just for the record, wiped out last August, broken right collar bone, broken right elbow, broken left index (this one messed up for life but still works), 1) helmet and leathers do save lives 2) I still love see the speedometer needle in the three digit area.

Alf, thanks very much for your comments! You might inspire me to rent one next time we go on vacation, btw.

This time of year it sure is tough to wait until the roads clear, but when they do there is certainly a huge smile on everyone's face as they get the bikes back out!

Question

so just what would be a good bike for a beginner. My friend just got a 2000 v-star 650 classic and i went and checked it out and man that bike is nice. Thats his first bike. His dad got a 2001 1100 v-star. So now i am wanting a bike. I want a cruzer type because that looks like more my style. so what would be a good bike for a beginner?

Well, my buddy rode the bike home for me today. I can't stay away from it. I bought saddle bags and a helmet while I was there. I absolutely love this bike so far. I will be riding some tomorrow. It's gonna be 80 degrees here tomorrow.

cooltrucks, I was gonna buy a V-Star 650 Classic but I decided to go bigger.

I don't want to be biased but the Valkyrie is an awesome bike as you know, because you rode one. They seem huge at first but they are nimble as a sportbike.

I started riding when I was about 7 years old when my dad got me a honda 50cc fat cat.
From there he traded that in on a honda 110cc 3 wheeler. then a 175cc honda motorcycle. Then a 81 honda i think an 800cc? then a yamaha virago 750cc. That was a nice bike. Then I got out of bikes for a while then i got an 80 honda 900cc. which I traded for the Valkyrie. A 99 Black & Silver 1520cc. They seem intimidating but they aren't. But if it is your first bike I understand being hesistent.<sp?>

Just like this one except all about Valks.

How can anybody in Florida not buy a Harley? Isn't Daytona the home of the largest Harley party every year?

Well Dennis, I saved about $12K. Going with a Honda. I rode it for the first time tonight. It is awesome!

I am still getting used to the controls, etc.

Congrats on the purchase seacrow!
cooltrucks, my first bike was a '94 Suzuki Intruder 1400 at 15 years old. I loved that bike and rode it everywhere. Mental note to self, never let anyone that doesn't have street bike experience ride your bike. We lived down a mile of dirt rode and my dad let his girlfriend take my bike out and it rained while they were gone. She was the first and only person to lay it on its side, but it was in the mud going very slow. Unfortunately, I let someone else ride it and he totalled the bike.
But, as for bikes, if you want a bike to tour on and don't think you can handle the vibration, Numb @ss, I would go with a shaft driven, foreign bike. But if you aren't riding long distance or don't mind the @ss numbing ride, go for a Harley. I have to admit, the Harleys look good, but so do the sports bikes.

Next time you hear a harley, next time you see a harley. Just ask yourself, why would the Japanese bike companies want to produce a product that looks and sounds just like that. Could it be the same reason why Japanese truck makers try to produce and name trucks copied after our beloved F-150. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. There is one big problem, they lack CLASS. Some people love thier harleys so much that the number one tattoo of all time is the HD/ eagle-------how many Honda tats have you seen. I did see one "Gold Wing and Jap flag" it was in a movie about Pearl Harbor
